4. Switchology Summer Band Camp - Switchology Summer Band Camp offers wind and percussion players with 1 or more years experience, the opportunity to learn a new instrument in a full band setting.

Are you a musician interested in trying out another instrument? Switchology Summer Band Camp offers the opportunity to spend a week immersed in playing a new wind or percussion instrument. The instructor is a BC certified band director who has 25 years experience as a music educator. Have a great time performing on a different instrument while meeting some new friends! Camp participants will provide their own instruments and the instructor will provide the music. A small concert will be provided for parents and friends at the end of camp. Camp is open to musicians with 1-3 years experience on a musical instrument.

The program ends on August 27th with the world-premiere of the student’s work in The Cultch’s beautiful, state-of-the-art Historic Theatre.

8. UBC Summer Music Institute

Students may obtain private lessons from members of the School of Music faculty, many of whom are members of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Vancouver Opera Orchestra. Sectional rehearsals and master classes are given by professional musicians and teachers. Each week of study ends with a concert for parents, friends and the general public - Friday afternoon in the first week and Saturday afternoon in the second week.

In addition to the intensive music making, the students have opportunities to enjoy various recreational activities and cultural centres on campus, including the Aquatic Centre, Museum of Anthropology, Art Gallery, gardens, bookstore, movies, and a weekly dance party.

Students who choose to stay on campus this year will be housed, fully supervised, in the Place Vanier Residence which is located a few minutes' walk from the School of Music.

Parents of students from out of town please note that we will be happy to meet your students at the airport or bus station and transport them to UBC.

Each evening after dinner, students have the opportunity to perform a solo or small group piece in the musical "lottery", which will qualify them for a chance at a $100 and many other prizes.

By providing outstanding young musicians the opportunity to become familiar with UBC, the School of Music, and its faculty, we feel that we are making a sincere effort to bring the university and its programmes to our community.

Summer Music Discovery Camp

We are excited to invite you to the Victoria Conservatory of Music for the 2010 Summer Music Discovery Camp taking place in beautiful Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. This 1 or 2 week-long summer camp lets children ages 5-12 explore exciting options available in music in a fun and educational setting. Often, this is a child’s first hands-on exposure to classical music and gives them a chance to discover which aspects of music resonate most with them. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to try playing a variety of instruments before enrolling in lessons or a school band program. Children have the opportunity to sing in a choir, participate in musical theatre and learn two different instruments per week. All instructors are high-level professional musicians with strong backgrounds in both performance and teaching.
