Live on a genuine working farm this summer at a farm summer camp. Learn how to plant, tend, and harvest crops outside in the fields as well as inside a greenhouse. Some farms are entirely organic and promote sustainable living practices. Many farms have livestock and include instruction with respect to animal care. In any case, you will gain valuable life sustaining hands on experience while having fun at a farming camp this summer.

Rawhide Ranch, a Southern California tradition since 1963, is famous for providing campers from all over the world with a taste of ranch life. The camp is located approximately 45 min. north of San Diego, CA near the village of Fallbrook.

Campers learn to ride in our nationally accredited western riding program. The daily schedule features western riding & vaulting (gymnastics on horseback) instruction, animal care time, animal & horse science classes along with a variety of electives to choose from such as roping, archery, drama, farm life, crafts, intro to rodeo, climbing tower, dance, as well as swimming/water slide.

The overnight program is a co-ed program for ages 7-15. One week or multiple week sessions are available. Great for beginning/intermediate riders.

When campers arrive to begin their summer camp adventure, families will be greeted by a host of new sights and sounds to welcome you to Rawhide Ranch. As you help your camper get settled in there will be plenty of time to meet your child’s counselor and explore the ranch together before you say your goodbyes. The days will fly by and before you know it the Grand Entry music will be playing to welcome the families back to the ranch for the closing day festivities. (If your camper is traveling alone by air we will be happy to arrange for transportation to/from the San Diego airport.)

A summer horse camp experience will provide a lifetime of memories along with a new sense of independence, accomplishment, and pride as new skills are learned, new friendships are made, and a chance to joy a slower pace of life.

In each camp you will learn about horses - how to ride them and how to care for them. Each of the five different programs for children focuses on different aspects of horse care and riding. All camps are conducted by owner Judy Gerhard. Judy has over 35 years experience in riding instruction and has been breeding and showing arabians for over 20 years. She has experience in both english and western riding, has been a part of riding clubs, drill teams, parades (including seven years in the Tournament of Roses), 4-H, endurance riding, trail riding, horse training, and therapeutic riding instruction. She has run horse camps for children for over 10 years.

3. Far View Ranch Camp - In operation since 1936, Far View Ranch Camp is a farm/ranch experience for children on a 1,000 acre ranch in the California Sierra foothills concentrating on hands on experiences in an outdoor setting.

Far View Ranch Camp operates 2 week sessions during the summer months for boys and girls ages 8-15, who are interested in involvement in a rural life experience. Kids take an active role in animal chores, horseback riding, gardening, hiking, nature exploration, gold rush history, water sports, performing and visual arts and cooperative group living. Many generations of children have attended Far View and have participated in a life changing experience. The camp is small and much like a large farm family. Non-denominational, multi-ethnic design with an emphasis on inclusiveness, open communication and respect for the environment, nature and one another.
