Loma Mar Summer Camps

Jam Camp West is an exciting and fun 7 day co-ed sleep away music and dance camp held in the stunning redwoods of Loma Mar, California. JAM CAMP WEST offers a creative and fun experience for youth ages 10 through 15, exposing them to contemporary musical trends along with the cultural underpinnings of jazz.

A great alternative to traditional band camps, Jam Camp is an inclusive, supportive program where all classes are taught by ear, offering hands-on group experiences for all levels and an array of classes that can reach kids through music they are listening to today.

Campers will create a personal schedule from over twenty five non-competitive workshops offered each day. The curriculum includes instrumental ensembles taught by ear, vocals, percussion, steel drum, turntables, beat box, body percussion and, hip-hop and jazz dance.
Musical styles include jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop and gospel.

Our classroom is the majestic redwood forest with unique nature and other outdoor activities woven into the daily program. Campers at JAM CAMP WEST will enjoy swimming, volleyball, basketball, hiking and ping-pong, as well as outdoor afternoon crafts classes and many group field games, all interspersed throughout the day in this stunning natural outdoor environment.

All classes are taught by professional working artist and musicians. JAM CAMP WEST counselors and CIT’s are carefully chosen from young aspiring artists hoping to serve as role models and mentors, while gaining experience assisting in classes.

Redwood Glen is nestled in the scenic coastal redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains between San Francisco and Santa Cruz, just 30 minutes south of Half Moon Bay. Campers will be assigned to cabins with approximately eight campers, separated male/female in supervised groups assigned by age. All cabins have bunk beds, bathrooms and showers. Campers and staff will enjoy delicious, healthy meals and snacks provided each day in a beautiful redwood dining hall.

The program is designed for all skill levels and is guaranteed to inspire great music, friendships and life long memories. Kids do not need special talents or skills, only a sense of adventure and willingness to try new things.

JAM CAMP WEST is committed to making this experience available to a broad spectrum of youth. A limited amount of scholarships are available based on financial need, not skill or experience. YMCA Camp Loma Mar is a coed Resident Summer Camp for ages 7-17 and a year-round Conference and Retreat center. We are located in the redwoods of San Mateo County 10 miles inland on Pescadero Road from Highway 1. Meadows, hiking trails, swimming pool, archery, arts and crafts, basketball, volleyball, campfire bowl, stage, zip line and climbing wall are all available. Heated cabins sleep 8-12 campers and foster peer interaction and friendship. Counselor positions available.

Prices for 2010: $252-$588 1-wk session, or $788-$1,145 2-wk session, Family Camp $132-$244.
