At the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, SUMMER STUDY at THE UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO at BOULDER offers a 3-week enrichment program for qualified students completing 9th, 10th, 11th or 12th grade.

Summer Study has a wide variety of enrichment classes including Expository Writing, Speed Reading, Journalism, Calculus, Study Skills, Introduction to Art, Community Service, Photography, Business/Marketing/Advertising, Theater, the renowned Kaplan SAT Preparation course, Habitat for Humanity community service workshops and more. Students have use of the extensive sports and recreational facilities on campus through organized afternoon activities as well as recreational outdoor hiking, biking and roller-blading excursions conducted daily. In addition, students can join one of eight available clinics in soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, fitness training, yoga, rock climbing or guitar. Fun-filled evenings include concerts, shows, dance clubs, movies, broomball, skit/talent night and other great activities.

To feel the brisk mountain air and experience the great outdoors, students will take 3 WEEKEND EXCURSIONS in the 3-week program to the highlights of Colorado. Students will visit Vail and Breckenridge, winter home of the skiing jetsetters, Pike"s Peak, Colorado Springs,and a whitewater rafting trip. Students in our 5-week program will have 2 ADDITIONAL WEEKEND trips to Rocky Mountain National Park and a Denver Excursion. Both programs will have the option to partake in our exciting weekend camping adventure. These weekend trips afford Summer Study students the opportunity to hike, horseback ride and experience the Colorado wildlife and Western culture all in the perfect summer climate. Our EXCLUSIVE CONCEPT of weekend travel is included in the program fees and completes "THE TOTAL PRECOLLEGIATE EXPERIENCE" at The University of Colorado at Boulder.

AO Camps provides traditional nature-based summer camp experiences. We create multilevel connections, with a focus on youth and community development, through nature exploration, choice, and play.

AO Camps is Accredited by the American Camp Association and licensed by the State of Colorado.

Founded and staffed by camp and youth development professionals, AO Camps partners with parents and families to continue to build a powerful camp community throughout the summer.

We offer:
*Day camps from 8:30am to 4:30pm for ages 7-11 in Denver and Boulder

Each day of AO Camps has a consistent structure and routine, but no day is ordinary. On any given day, campers could be hiking a trail, making a journal about their experiences at camp, rock climbing, or learning about the environment and Leave No Trace ethics through nature crafts and games. Our campers are enthusiastic about the natural world, excited to get outside, and be actively engaged during the summer.

4. Colorado Shakespeare Festival Summer Camp - Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s Summer Camp in Boulder

Boulder. Ages 6-18. Unlock the magic of Shakespeare’s language with the Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s wildly popular summer acting programs. Camp Shakespeare is a 3-week intensive for ages 10-18, in which campers rehearse and perform Shakespeare’s plays on the Mary Rippon stage! Camp Shakespeare runs July 16-August 3 from 1-5 pm. Shakespeare’s Sprites, now in its 2nd year, is a weeklong mini camp for 6- to 9-year-olds, held from 9 am-12 pm. Call (303) 492-1973 to sign up.

5. Boulder School of Rock Performance and Producing/Engineering Camps - Offering 8 One-Week Performance and Producing/Engineering Camps from June 6 through August 12

PERFORMANCE CAMPS - In rock band format of 5 students, each band will prepare and perform 3 or 4 songs, including one that the band writes during the camp. Each summer "camp" band will name their band, design t-shirts for their band, perform the songs that are prepared in the camp and cut a CD recording of the performance to Keep in their music collection.
RECORDING/ENGINEERING CAMPS - Students will learn the basic skills and techniques associated with recording and producing a song from the ground up. They will learn how to set up a recording template in ProTools that they will use for their sessions. Basic techniques such as tempo, meter, click tracks, fades, cut, past, loops, equalization, and effects processing will be covered. In the cutting room the students will be learning how to position their equipment for the best sound. In addition, they will learn how to place microphones in the appropriate spot as will as patching it through the snakes. Direct injection will be covered, as well, And of course, the students will also develop more aesthetic production skills, such as double tracking vocals, discrete delays and more.

Explore nature in the mountains! Ten-day coed backcountry tent camp focuses on environmental education, conservation, and FUN! Campers study mountain ecosystems while they breathe fresh air and revel in the beauty of their natural surroundings. Enjoy whitewater rafting, bird banding, fishing, volunteering, canoeing, astronomy, campfires & more! With a personalized camp setting, CYP empowers girls and boys to make a difference in our world. 7. music FUNdamentals - Explore basics of harmony and rhythm hands-on, with keyboard and drum playing; learn about classical masterpieces and other musical styles in an incredibly fun way!

Since 1998, the Girls’ Wilderness Program has been providing girls with high quality outdoor adventure, and the inspiration to lead bigger, bolder lives. Our courses are fun, creative, adventurous, and designed specifically for girls. That means lots of laughter, strong and real friendships, challenge at just the right level, and the kind of experience that draws your full self forward.

Why just girls, and why the outdoors?
Girls are different! Our ‘girl-positive’ program recognizes girls’ unique strengths and needs, and balance physical challenge with the development of the healthy relationships that are crucial for girls’ confidence and self-esteem. On GWP courses, girls to learn to speak up for their values and beliefs, to honor their bodies, and to take the appropriate risks that lead to success. On an all-girl expedition, girls are more likely to take leadership, to fully own their experience, and to discover themselves as strong, playful, and capable. And, as a result, to have more fun!

What kind of girl comes to the Girls’ Wilderness Program?
All kinds! Our courses are designed for any girl who wants to give it a try- outdoorsy or not, artistic or not, quiet or bubbly, confident or uncertain. Good health, basic fitness, and the willingness to give it 100% are important, but no previous backpacking experience is necessary, except for the Leadership Course.

2011 Girls’ Wilderness Program Schedule includes:

ADVENTURE CAMP for girls age 12-13 (or entering 7th and 8th grades). Six-day wilderness sampler courses for middle school girls include rock climbing, a three-night backpacking trip, art projects, and an optional peak climb. Dates: June 16- 21, July 7- 12, July 21- 26, August 7-12.

ADVENTURE DAYS for girls age 9-11 (or entering 5th and 6th grades). Five consecutive one-day adventures offer a great introduction to hiking, rock climbing, expressive arts and the wilderness. Last night includes an overnight Dates: June 20-24, July 11-15, August 1-5.

LATINA GIRLS ADVNETURE DAYS for girls age 13-16 (or entering 8th-11th grades). Five consecutive one-day adventures that focus on outdoor experiences with other Latina girls including rock climbing, art projects, and includes an overnight on the last day. Latina women will serve as mentors and leaders. Dates: July 20-24.

WILDERNESS EXPEDITIONS for girls age 14-17 (or entering 9th-12th grades). Eight-day backpacking courses include a wide range of outdoor skills, an introduction to rock climbing and the chance to climb a peak. Dates: July 6-13, community service day July 14; July 29-August 5, community service day August 6.

WILD THINGS for girls age 13-16 (or entering 8th-11th grades). Six-day backpacking trip focusing on self-expression through a variety of creative activities, including art projects, rock-climbing, yoga and outdoor skills, focusing on making friends and having a blast. July 17-22.

ROCK CLIMBING CAMP for girls age 14-17 (or entering 9th-12th grades). Four-day rock climbing, camping and outdoor skills course at Vedauwoo, a renowned climbing site in southern Wyoming. Dates July 26-29.

LEADERSHIP COURSE for girls age 15-18 (or entering 10th-12th grades). This twelve-day expedition provides a more advanced backcountry experience with a focus on sharpening leadership skills. Includes rock climbing and an extended backpacking trip. Dates: July 31-August 11, Community Service Day August 12.

DAUGHTER-PARENT ADVENTURES for girls ages 8+. Girls choose from 3 different day-long activities to share with a parent or adult mentor. Learn outdoor skills for adventures together while exploring and sharing stories with other girl-mentor pairs. Dates: Rock Climbing June 26, Fly Fishing August 13.

Mature female staff with safety focus and extensive experience working with teen girls. Courses begin in Boulder, and take place in Colorado and Southern Wyoming. AEE accredited.
