A Day in the Shoes of a SportsTyme Camper:
The day starts with drop-off, which goes as smoothly as if you were dropping your child off for a day at school. The difference being, we suggest plenty of sunscreen (we will provide your child with some if they didn’t get any at home). Additionally, you’ll want to pack them a lunch and two snacks, and don’t forget that water bottle! The school has water fountains, but we’ll have ice-cold water coolers set out at each activity for your child to take advantage of. Regular camper drop-off is at 9am, although we do offer an early drop-off option. The first 30 minutes is spent in Open Gym, where the campers get to socialize and play to their hearts’ content. The whistle is blown and coaches help split the campers into their two main groups; Junior Varsity (5-8) and Varsity (9-13). From there they are taken to two different places on campus to start the morning routine, which includes them being split up into smaller groups of about 15. The great thing about camp is making new friends and sticking with old friends, so we’ll make sure that if your child has a friend they want to be grouped with, they get that opportunity.
Let the games begin! Coaches take the kids out to their first activity. Each activity runs for about 30 minutes before moving on to the next rotation. Florida summers are notorious so we rotate groups indoors and outdoors to keep them from staying in the sun too long. Activities range from traditional sports like Tennis and Volleyball; to the more untraditional like Cup-Stacking and Dodge Ball. We cover them all over the course of a week! Depending on your child’s age, the activity is geared toward that age group. Take Floor Hockey; while older Varsity kids might compete in a team-based tournament; the younger Junior Varsity crowd will do smaller competitive drills for prizes!
After the first two activates we go indoors for Snack-time. Here we might watch a movie while we eat and recharge our batteries for the next set of activities. We also do some prize drawings for kids who were well-behaved and showed good sportsmanship out on the field.
Two more activities and it is lunchtime. Lunchtime is spent indoors cooling off with a nice movie.
Two more 30 minute activities are spent in- and outdoors. Then, it’s snack time, followed by two more games/sports. Finally we come to the end of our day with pick-up at 4pm (late stay options available). Your child goes home with you considerably more tired than when you dropped him/her off. That’s the SportsTyme guarantee! If we did our job they’ll be begging to come back tomorrow where the fun starts all over again!
