Memorable and meaningful…Safe and happy…Strong and confidant… these are the adjectives used by generations of campers and parents who we define as our Dixie Family. Although large in scale, the campsite is over 300 acres nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Northeastern Georgia; in contrast, we choose to keep our enrollment small. For ninety-three consecutive summers Camp Dixie for Boys & Girls philosophy that smaller numbers of campers and excellent leadership ratios create the most successful environment for nurturing an adventuresome spirit.

Most often, the majority of our counselors have grown up through the program and are eager to pass on the Dixie Spirit to those coming behind them! Our alumnae stay actively involved. It is a pleasure to see generations in each family grow through our program.

At ninety-three, some changes have occurred. Modern bathhouses and a winterized Dining Hall have replaced memorable, earlier construction. Yet our alumnae are happy to see that the rustic, two-story cabins, filled with the fresh smell of the white pines that shade the cabin-line boardwalk are there to great them when they visit.

We are fortunate to have a camping history steeped in cherished traditions. Each Director has carried forward the Seven Founding Principles set forth by our Founder, Mr. A. A. Jameison (Co-Founder of the Boy Scouts of America and the YMCA) since Dixie’s first opening day, in 1914.

Created as a Christian, non-denominational program, each day is begun with a discussion on the Thought for the Day. At the close of the day, evening devotions give our campers an opportunity to share how they integrated the principle discussed that morning. Wednesday evenings the campers, under the supervision of the staff help conduct Vespers where these character-building tools can be shared with one another. Sunday School and Chapel gives us all a time to gather as a Spiritual family nestled in the woodlands of our outdoor Chapel. All peoples of all faiths are welcome in our camping family. Although the Christian Doctrine is emphasized in the spiritual aspects of the program, all others are respected.

Swimming, canoeing and kayaking all take place on our private lake. Field sports, and a variety of physical fitness training classes are also offered to our young people. Drama, music and the arts always stimulate and foster the creative spirits of our campers. Minimum impact camping practices encourage our young naturalists to tread softly and explore in harmony with the awesome nature that surrounds them. Our vital, thriving streams and waterfalls provide endless opportunities to discover the amazing and fragile creatures living within the crystal, clear waters they inhabit. Special themed events and evening programs create endless hilarity and bring the camps together for group activities in a brother-sister, family setting.

If a conservative camp with a keen awareness of our youth’s challenges in the 21st Century, is what you are seeking for your own camper, visit our website!
