Camp Carew is located approximately 9 miles south of Carbondale, Illinois. We are located on a 60 acre site sitting on a 900 acre lake. We are surrounded by the natural settings of a wildlife refuge, national forest and a state park. This setting provides ample opportunities for a variety of activities.

Camp River Trails offers 135 acres of adventurous woodlands to explore in Sheridan, IL. River Trails offers a variety programs for girls in grades 4-9.
Campers may choose from general and specialty sessions of 5 days depending on their age and interest. The girls work with their counselors and fellow campers after arrival to plan their activities during their stay. Campers live in platform tent units.
Camp staff are carefully screened and selected, and represent the in highest character, skill and caring. All staff members are trained in First Aid and CPR, and participate in a comprehensive training prior to the start of camp. Aquatics staff possess specialized skills and certifications. Staff members are at least eighteen years of age, and hail from across the United States and abroad. Many are current college or university students or recent graduates.
Facilities at camp include a dining hall, camp office and Health Center, platform tent sites, shower house, pool for swimming, hiking trails, program buildings, and several primitive sites for tent camping and cookouts. A fulltime site manager lives on-site, and is in constant communication with resident camp staff. The site amanger also monitors and advises the camp director of approaching weather conditions.
Campers need not be Girl Scouts in order to attend Camp River Trails, though fee subsidies are provided to Girl Scouts registered within our multi-council Co-op. For more information or a link to our current camp brochure, simply submit a request and our Program Manager will contact you directly.
