I am so glad that you are interested in Camp Sacajawea! Let me tell you a little bit about our wonderful Camp and the things that we can offer you for the summer.
We offer three day sessions so younger girls may come and try Camp out and six day sessions for older girls. We also offer a Mom and Me session twice this summer. It is a two day one night event where the two of you can come to Camp and try all the activities to decide what session you might like, this is a great opportunity for both of you to get to know the Counselors and the Camp.
Camp Sacajawea is an equestrian camp and we have a summer herd of 26 horses. We also have a wonderful dining hall and pool. Our usual summer crafts range from leather pounding to tie dye and of course friendship bracelets. No matter what session you come to, you will make a special craft to take home.
We do outdoor cooking here and have two outdoor meals for every six day session. If you decide to come to a three day session (for younger girls) you will do one outdoor meal. This gives you the opportunity to plan your meal and learn to cook it over a campfire or camp stove. If you can make it at home, you can cook it over a fire! And of course you will get to learn silly songs and have a s’more. We have campfires every evening and learn special songs at them.
We have two horse programs a week for all ages and skill levels and those sessions will always stay in either the cabins at Mayea or the Parfletch building. You daughter will accomplish one hour of riding and two hours of ground work for every morning spent at camp.
We offer sessions about stars, crafts, outdoor skills, exploring, water games and spa techniques. Every session has something unique to it that makes it special from the others in Camp. These will be detailed in the Camp book coming out in February to all Girl Scouts registered in the Greater Iowa council. If Alexandra is not a girl scout in this Council let me know and I will gladly send a copy to you. Remember you do not have to be a Girl Scout to come to Girl Scout Camp!
