Located on over 300 acres near the coast, our international Maine summer camp features the finest in visual and performing arts, challenging outdoor adventures, horse-riding and much more on 330 acres with a private lake and heated pool near the Maine coast.

Depending on your interest, HVC is an art camp, a horse camp, an outdoor adventure camp, a performing arts camp, a dance camp, or a water sports camp. Or — because you choose your activities — it can be all of these! Professional staff provide challenging individualized teaching and counseling designed to foster independence, community and creativity in all dimensions of children’s summer experience.

Campers come from all over the US and 5 continents. Great food, many choices, support for allergies. Directors have lived on site for over 20 years. A parent writes: “It is a truly extraordinary camp, fun, interesting, inclusive, and with the kind of values that indirectly teach kids how to be better human beings. Each year my kids go there, I see so many positive changes when they return home.”

I am often asked, "What sets our camp apart from other camps?" Well, I tell people...Wekeela is gorgeous, the campers are fantastic, our facilities are top notch, the lake has pristine waters, and there is magic at Wekeela. Yes, we have great campers-after all, the apple does not fall from the tree. Our staff is the grand equalizer. We are so privileged to have dedicated men and women return year after year to the shores of Little Bear Pond. They return because they love Wekeela, they love Maine. They return because they understand what camp is about. It's about being a role model to children. It is about being a teacher, it is about having tremendous FUN. Our staff affects, shapes, and defines our campers' summer like no other individual. Our staff understands that Wekeela is not just camp, it's a way of life."

Each summer hundreds of talented high school students arrive in Rockport from across the country and around the world to work with professional faculty in the fields of photography, filmmaking, and multimedia.

The Young Artists (“YO”) program is a unique opportunity for teens to immerse themselves in the media field they are passionate about, to explore new creative possibilities for their with peers who share their love of visual arts, and to experience the quintessential Maine summer.

Please visit our website for a complete listing of workshops offered this year.

The YO Educational Experience:
Young Artists’ days are comprised of both classroom and field/location work: lectures and critique, demonstrations, shooting, editing, writing, computer workflow and/or darkroom work, depending on the workshop. All instructors are talented industry professionals as well as experienced educators, and each works with a teaching assistant, providing additional support for their class. The students are busy all day and into the mid-evening hours, attending presentations from visiting master faculty.

YO Accomodations:
All Young Artists reside at a nearby residence (a motel-style building, with four students to a room, gender specific, and private bath) located 3/4 of a mile from campus. The property is controlled by Maine Media Workshops and is used exclusively by YOs and their counselors. Students are shuttled to the main campus each morning for breakfast and to begin their day, and are driven back at the end of the each day, following their last class or other scheduled activity.

YO Campus Life:
All meals are taken together. Parents can indicate any special dietary needs upon registration. Counselors supervise the students 24 hours a day and help make group decisions about weekend activities like swimming, bowling, and hiking. We recommend students have access to $150 over the two-week period for incidentals, snacks, movies, field trips etc. Coin laundry facilities are available on campus. A lobster dinner is served (with other choices provided) on the last Friday night of each workshop, and all Workshops students gather for an evening presentation of highlights from the week’s work. Parents are welcome to attend and meal tickets may be purchased in the Registration Office.
