SIG at Amherst, MA provides academically advanced students ages 9-17 with an exciting and challenging educational experience.

The program combines remarkable academic courses with cultural, social, and recreational opportunities. The academic program is central to the design and purpose of SIG. Our programs provide students with academic challenges designed to fit their abilities and interests. It also provides them with the opportunity to engage with other students who have similar abilities and interests. Because of our small classes, low teacher-student ratio, and the presence of an assistant in every class, we are able to individualize the program for each and every student.

The richness of a broad range of geographical, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, the stimulation created by talented and intellectually engaged students working and playing together, the depth and diversity of the SIG faculty and staff, and the beautiful and well-equipped college campus environments create a perfect atmosphere for learning, growing and accomplishing meaningful goals.

Amherst College, #1 ranked Liberal Arts College in the country for 2001-2002, is an independent, nonsectarian, liberal arts college founded in 1821. Amherst now has an enrollment of approximately 1,650 students who come from all over the United States and many foreign countries. The College is located in beautiful Amherst, Massachusetts, 90 miles west of Boston and 165 miles north of New York City. Campers are housed; two per room and enjoy the superb athletic facilities Amherst has to offer.

Directing the camp is Head Coach E.J. Mills. Coach Mills just completed his eleventh season as Head Coach of the Lord Jeffs. In the past ten years, Coach Mills has helped to restore the tradition-rich Amherst football program as a perennial powerhouse. This past season, the Lord Jeffs finished with a 4-4 record with Coach Mills' combined record of 61-27.

Widely recognized as one of the top head coaches and defensive minds in the NEASAC and all of NCAA Division III, Mills has also served as the Amherst Defensive Coordinator for the last ten years, twice guiding a group that has led the nation in scoring defense. The Lord Jeffs gave up a meager 8.4 points per game in 1996 and shattered that mark in 2001 by surrendering only 6.1 points per contest. In addition, Mills’ defense tied a 21 year-old NCAA record by not allowing a single passing touchdown all season long. Mills is a 1988 graduate and past scholar athlete of the University of Dayton (Ohio), where he earned a degree in history and secondary education. Coach Mills brings to Amherst an enthusiasm unmatched in any college ranks. Assisting E.J. will be Amherst’s assistant coaches Billy McBride and Don Faulstick.

Don Faulstick, Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach, came to Amherst in 1997 from his second stint as the Offensive Coordinator at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (MA). Don also served as the Offensive Coordinator at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where the team posted a 31-8 record and won the ECAC Championship three out of four seasons!

Wide Receivers Coach Billy McBride just completed his sixteenth season mentoring the wide receiver corps. Drafted out of Tennessee State by the San Francisco 49ers, McBride played for six years on the Canadian Football League, where he played wide receiver and defensive back for three different teams. McBride is also the head coach of the varsity women’s basketball team at Amherst.

Development – Ages 10-14: We’ll teach you the proper technique and basics of football. You’ll understand every aspect of the game from offense, defense and special teams, giving you the passion, skill and comprehension to not only enjoy the game, but continue to improve beyond camp.

High School Players – Ages 14-18: Being a member of a great team is a powerful and memorable experience. Leading that team is the best experience of all. This program is geared to help you achieve a higher level on your team or give you the skill and confidence to make your high school team. This camp is designed to sharpen your skills and increase your self-confidence
