Parents and kids are raving about Bach To Rock, a one-of-a-kind summer program in Garden City, NY where 10-17 year olds of all ability levels have a blast playing in rock bands and learning music skills.
The program develops young musicians both technically and artistically and is driven by a philosophy that goes way beyond music. “Nothing builds confidence like an actual experience,” says founder and director Maria Sarro, “We help kids go beyond their fears with lot’s of support and fun. Parents have repeatedly told me they can’t believe the difference in their child.”
During the value-packed two-week program, kids learn vocal and instrument technique, songwriting, multi-track recording, stage presence/performing skills, sound systems, MIDI piano keyboards, music software, and more from top notch certified teachers and industry professionals. All of this is balanced with theater and music improvisation and play to keep the creativity flowing, to help kids listen and work together, and, most of all, to have fun! Maria feels that a well-rounded music education offers time to explore music without trying to sound or look good in addition to building solid technique and knowledge.
While one parent was amazed at what her daughter was able to do in two weeks with no prior lessons, another parent said the program helped her son see why he’s been taking lessons all of these years.
Then there’s the concert – a real rock concert with professional lights and sound at the famous Mulcahy’s Music Club. Says one parent, “My son was a whole different person on stage! The family saw a hidden talent emerge, nurtured by Bach To Rock.” Another parent states, “For years my son suffered with stage fright. I was shocked when he spoke into the microphone in front of everyone and played drums on stage.”
