What Camp Can-Aqua is All About . . .

The easy answer is . . . fun. But, Camp is so much more . . . it's a necessity!
Camp plays an important role in developing skills in young people that will help them throughout the rest of their lives.

Living together with their peers develops important social skills. Getting along, developing tolerance for others from different backgrounds and habits, and learning to resolve differences so that everyone feels good about themselves are fostered and encouraged. Working together, whether during cabin clean-up, evening program games or preparing for trip, emphasizes the importance of cooperation, persistence and integrity - I'll do what I say I'll do. - Important life skills!

At camp, action is the name of the game. Swimming, running, or making a wooden mallet in woodworking, are important reminders that fun is a do-it-yourself project. Camp activities enhance the enjoyment of life by learning new skills and improving existing abilities! Self-esteem builds confidence, independence and encourages the willingness to try new things!

And of course, Fun! Laughing and making others laugh with you, and at you, comes from feeling good about yourself. Air Bands, Paper-Bag-Skits, and Talent Night produce some of the greatest laughter, fondest memories and closest friends.

Our family atmosphere and understanding staff help campers overcome the natural fears and concerns of being away from home. Getting kids involved in the program and making friends soon after arrival overcomes the fears associated with leaving the security of home and family. Can-Aqua offers a very nurturing experience so children can learn to be away from home.

Our cabin groups are carefully structured to balance first time campers, experienced campers, campers of different ethnic backgrounds and international campers in each group. Where else might you have a roommate from Spain, Asia, and French-speaking Quebec at the same time? This diversity helps kids learn tolerance and understanding in an environment that fosters friendships that last a lifetime.

Our diverse activities promote fun, skills development, and the opportunity for campers to try new things. Our award system is non-competitive; it is a system of organizing skills in a progressive manner to provide just the right amount of challenge for the camper's skill and ability level.

Campers choose to work on earning awards at their own pace or do activities for leisure. There is no pass or fail. Skills are demonstrated and taught by Can-Aqua's well-trained staff.
This approach encourages growth in skills and abilities and fosters healthy self-esteem.

All this while campers think they are just having fun!
