La Junta’s 200 acres lie nestled between a mile of crystal clear, cypress shaded, Guadalupe riverfront and the scenic rolling hills for which the Texas Hill Country is famous. The beautiful campgrounds are thoughtfully laid out, providing a sense of spaciousness yet convenience. Abundant cypress and oak trees provide a canopy of cooling shade on most of the grounds. Cabins are spacious, newly remodeled and comfortable, and each has full bathroom facilities with plenty of hot water. Typical cabins house eight to twelve boys, two college-aged counselors and very often a Counselor-in-Training.
The well-rounded program at La Junta provides each boy aged 7 - 14 with ample opportunity to pursue his own interests while maintaining a pace suitable for his needs. Held in the proper perspective, competition is an important part of this program. In addition to the challenges of sportsmanship and individual contribution to a team effort, we stress the importance of challenging a young boy to meet his own personal dreams and aspirations.

Character Development
Campers have the opportunity to grow spiritually while at camp. Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility and Faith are core YMCA values that are the focus of our daily devotionals. Campers come together to discuss these values in an inclusive and participatory format each morning during POW WOW and each evening with their cabin group during devotionals.
Our Goal
To provide a summer camp experience rich in tradition centered on our core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility and faith, and allowing campers to gain independence, a higher self worth and life long, positive memories.
Camp Life
Each camper is assigned a cabin group with nine other campers of the same gender and similar age. Cabin groups form close bonds as they eat meals together, participate in evening activities and share cabin responsibilities. Each cabin has two or three counselors, depending on the age of the campers, who live in the cabin with the campers and facilitate a fun, inclusive and safe atmosphere. Campers are also assigned to an activity group with eleven other campers of similar age and mixed gender with two staff members. This activity group spends time together each day participating in all the exciting camp activities.
