Harrisonburg Summer Camps

For more than 45 years,Up With People has provided young adults an international, educational and intercultural experience that teaches service leadership and uses the performing arts to deliver messages of hope and goodwill throughout the world. Up with People exists today to spark people to action in meeting the needs of their communities, countries and the world while building bridges of understanding as a foundation for world peace. And now, there is a summer camp designed for High school age students. We are located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia USA, just 2 hours west of Washington, DC and just a few miles outside the city of Harrisonburg, VA. These three-week long camps will be focused on four main areas, which mirror those of Up with People: Performing Arts – Leadership – Service – Culture

The first camps will take place this summer:
July 3 - July 23
July 24 - August 13

There will be typical camp activities, including swimming, horseback riding, campfires and MORE! Also, some “X-TREME” activities like, zip-line, rock climbing and high/low ropes courses (these are optional). They will visit Washington, DC and be involved with community service projects in the Harrisonburg area. At the end of the three weeks, the campers will put on a performance, showcasing your talents, cultures and hopes for the world that reflects the Up with People spirit.

Also, as an extra incentive, for any Camp UWP attendee who later applies and is accepted to travel in the Up with People program, UWP will award a $1,000US Camp UWP Participant Scholarship toward their UWP program fee! This would be in addition to other scholarships the participant may be eligible for.

Camp Horizons is located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley near Harrisonburg, Virginia. We offer one and two week programs for campers ages 6-17.

The Journey Program, ages 6-11, features swimming, horseback, sports, drama, guitar, and more! In the Explorer Program, ages 12-16, campers have all the benefits of the traditional program plus high ropes, rock climbing, caving, mountain biking, tubing, performing arts, and more.

Camp UREC is a weekly children's day camp at the James Madison University Recreation Center. Kids will have full days of fun - playing in the recreation center, around campus and in the community.
