Camp Carysbrook has endured since 1923, celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2003 and is the oldest girls summer camp in Virginia.

2. Chatham Hall Riding Camp - Chatham Hall Riding Camp is an equestrian camp for rising 5th-7th graders and rising 8th-10th graders. The camp offers 3-hour daily riding instruction, Veterinary Science courses, Great Horse Stories, and an overall fun-filled experience.

Welcoming riders of all levels, Chatham Hall Riding Camp provides an excellent riding and residential experience through fun-filled activities to help riders learn to ride or improve riding skills—all on Chatham Hall’s 362-acre campus.

Spend your days with horses: riding, taking care of them, and possibly even connecting with one or two. Swim with a horse in a pond, finger paint a pony, and attend a horse show.

At Chatham Hall, our riders get a full, hands-on equestrian experience. And in the evenings, campers enjoy more traditional camp activities like movie nights, bowling outings, and ice cream runs—complete with lots of nighttime giggles.

This program is for juniors riders ages 9-17 of any riding level who wish to improve their skills, strength, confidence and riding foundation. Riders ride twice daily in ability-based groups. The spend much of the day caring for the horses, cleaning stalls, watering, feeding and turnout, attending mini-clinics, learning horsemanship skills and putting them into practice. Students may bring their own horse or enjoy one of our farm-owned horses and ponies. Students receive quality instruction from trainer Colleen Seely who is active in the industry through coaching at AA and VHSA horse shows, coaching Zone 3 Interscholastic Equestrian Association teams, active USEF/USHJA/VHSA member and judging local VHSA horse shows. She also has 12 years of experience teaching and managing successful summer equestrian camp programs.

We are recognized through the United States Hunter Jumper Association as an affiliated clinic. Limited to 10 riders per session.
