The Whole Horse Place

Come see what owning a horse is like. Start with beginning "hands on" horsemanship focused on safety and progress through all aspects of horse ownership. Make a leather craft project during craft time. Bring a LARGE sack lunch. You will work hard and get hungry this week.
Day Camp
Coed
The Whole Horse Place's Beginning Horsemanship program is a hands on, whole horse experience focused on safety. Participants start with safely approaching and haltering the horse, and proceed through all aspects of horsemanship, from controlling the horse on the ground to balance exercises while riding. Understanding horse behavior is fundamental in handling horses and is a large component of this program. Basic horse health, such as colic, thrush, and environmental factors are also covered. Equine Science and Horses in History are covered as well.
The Whole Horse Place is a unique horse experience for the average person with little or no horse exposure. Our approach to teaching horsemanship begins and ends with safety first. Teaching you to be in control of your horse at all times is our primary concern, and from that foundation all other aspects of horsemanship will be successful.
Eight children maximum, Monday-Thursday, 9:30am- 3:30pm. (Times can be flexible based on parents' schedules). We have four staff, camper to staff ratio is 2:1. $250 a week.Separate camps for ages 6-8. All other camps ages 8 - 17. Siblings may attend same camps.
Bring a LARGE sack lunch, water bottle, and dress in layers for the weather. We will be riding and hiking, so tennis shoes are encouraged. Helmets and boots are provided if you do not have your own.
You will see what owning a horse is like, from stall cleaning, grooming, feeding, ground work and riding.
Boy Scouts can earn the Horsemanship Merit Badge with our program, and we also have a limited number of Girl Scout Horse Fan and Horse Lover Badges. If you are a scout, please mention this and we will make sure your badge is signed off for you.
