Living Sustainably - June 15-22
Living "green" is not just an idea. Dr. Judith Peyton and Michael Peyton will introduce you to some of Bayfield County's residents to experience first-hand the environmentally sustainable principles they have applied to their homes and jobs. You'll visit a solar and wind-powered homestead and organic farm, a kayaking adventure business on Lake Superior, an organic cafe, a sustainable forest cooperative, a native plant nursery, and more. The class will culminate at the Midwest Renewable Energy and Sustainable Living Fair in Custer, Wisconsin, the world's largest renewable energy educational event.

Lake Superior Studies - June 21-28
Find yourself on the water and in the water with the researchers and natural resource stewards who know it best. Led by Northland College biology professor Andrew Goyke, you will gain first-hand experience in the Lake Superior watershed. Participants will assist fresh water biologists, fishery scientists, and ornithologists as they identify bog vegetation, collect fish population data, sample water quality, and study the habitats of loons, osprey, and eagles. Learn how a love for water and wild things can be the foundation of a professional career.

Wildlife Discovery and Adventure - July 6-13
Howl for wolves, band birds, and track elk during this hands-on journey toward a career with wildlife. Biology professor Gus Smith leads participants on an exploration of the north woods side by side experienced scientists and researchers from Northland College, the Department of Natural Resources, and the U.S. Forest Service. Participants in this program have a different field experience each day and numerous opportunities to meet and interact with professionals whose work in the biological sciences takes them outdoors.

Writing in the World of Nature - July 13-20
Paddle your way to the place where writing in nature begins! In the tradition of America's most powerful writers, students will immerse themselves in the natural world. Guided by Northland College English Professor Alan Brew, participants will explore Lake Superior's Apostle Islands via kayak while learning the art of keeping journals and composing stories, poems, and creative essays.

Storms and Stars - July 27-August 2
This is a scientific look at our dynamic atmosphere and amazing cosmos through high tech tools. Work with Northland College Professor of Physics and Atmospheric Sciences Robert Wilson in the College's observatory and state-of-the-art laboratories. Learn the basics of forecasting weather and how to examine global climate changes, severe storm dynamics, and the quality of the environment. Use the College's computer-controlled telescope, stellar photometers, and electronic imaging devices.

Learn to Lead - July 27-August 2
An outdoor adventure that will catapult you into leadership! This is the week for students who want to be challenged. Grant Herman, a dedicated environmental educator, will guide participants as they work together through ropes course challenges, trust-building group activities, and kayak out to the Apostle Islands for a night in the wilderness. Team members will interact in a supportive community to discover leadership potential and practice the skills needed by tomorrow's responsible, effective, and caring leaders.
