OUR HISTORY
The College Settlement of Philadelphia is located in Horsham Township, PA., fifteen miles north of the city of Philadelphia. Established in 1889, The College Settlement of Philadelphia began as a settlement house in South Philadelphia serving the needs of immigrants and their children from the crowded neighborhoods of Philadelphia. The College Settlement Camp, which started offering programs in 1922, was created to give urban children an opportunity to play and grow in a safe and healthy environment, and to learn more about the natural world around them. Kuhn Day Camp began offering Monday through Friday non residential programs in the fifties, and the program is more popular than ever!

WHAT DOES CAMP LOOK LIKE?
Our beautiful facility is set on 235 acres of former farmland. With streams, wetlands and a 4 acre pond, there are plenty of frogs, fish and turtles to be seen. With forests, meadows and lawn areas, we can offer a wide variety of activities - sports, ecology, crafts and general outside adventures!
Our two high ropes courses, two low courses, two challenge fields, three play courts and two swimming pools keep our staff and campers busy and offer activities for everyone's tastes and abilities.
We also have a 20 acre organic farm on site which combines educational programming and tasty treats. Along with our small farm animal collection, we strive to impart a sound understanding and respect for the natural world around us, with a nod to our strong farming heritage.
Many kids and staff choose to spend time helping collect chicken eggs, feed donkeys, groom goats, feed the mini pigs and harvest fresh veggies from the farm - activities that very few of us ever get to do!
RESIDENT CAMP
Residential campers stay in modern cabins with bathrooms, electricity and showers. Each counselor is typically given 7 or 8 campers that spend their day moving from activity to activity. Many of the specialized activities such as boating are led by our support staff. Counselors join in all the fun too and get to lead their own activities each afternoon.
The schedule is often changed to incorporate special theme days, day trips, adventure activities and special treats!
Our Tween Creeks campers stay in our brand new unit with a program geared towards these pre-teen years. Tween Creeks campers participate in more adventurous programming. "Tweens" spend 4 days at our stunning outpost in the Pocono Mountains, where they learn outdoor living skills while camping in tents and Adirondack shelters. At the outpost, tasty meals are cooked over the fire and on camping stoves. This program prepares our 11 and 12 year old campers for their next summer experience - the Teen Adventure Program.
TEEN ADVENTURE PROGRAM
This trip program takes 12 teens , three trip leaders, two vans and a ton of gear out on high adventure activities such as hiking, white water rafting and climbing, all while living in tents and preparing their own food over camp stoves. Trip leaders are able to fine-tune their own trips, and get to take our campers to some of the most magnificent places our northeastern states can offer.
DAY CAMP
Day campers participate in a very similar program to the residential campers, but enjoy a four week session, Monday through Friday. These campers are picked up and dropped off at their school each day. Staff that work at Kuhn Day Camp can be residential, non-residential or bus counselors. Many options are available, and it is often a great choice for staff with evening class or weekend job commitments.
OUR STAFF
Staff often return for many years and tell us that a season at College Settlement and Kuhn Day Camps changed their lives. The kids have the magic that changes us all, and makes our camp such a special place. The job is tough, but the rewards are immeasurable. Not only will the memories and friendships made here last forever, your resume will reflect your desire to make a positive impact on a needy child.
Take time to learn a little more about us and the important programs that take place here.
Can you see yourself at camp? We are always looking for great people who will do great things with our great kids!
COLLEGE SETTLEMENT CAMP RESIDENTIAL SUMMER PROGRAM:
Mid-June through mid-August
Children aged 8-12 come for a two week session of residential camp. We register 140 campers each of our four sessions to come and enjoy a "traditional" summer camp experience. Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, special day programs, day trips and adventure activities such as biking and climbing. Our 11 and 12 year old campers get to take a trip to Spruce Run Outpost in the beautiful Pocono Mountains.
Many staff positions are available - counselors, adventure staff, outpost leader, CIT counselor, environmental science program staff, pool staff, etc. Every position assists with all other aspects of the program allowing staff to enjoy a plethora of activities with the campers. We recruit from all over the USA and the planet!
We are ESPECIALLY interested in hearing from trip leaders...
KUHN DAY CAMP:
Mid-June through mid-August
The Kuhn Day Camp, founded in 1950, is adjacent to The College Settlement and the two camps share some facilities and resources. The day camp serves children from targeted schools in the Philadelphia area. Campers participate in one of two four-week sessions.
Experiencing a similar program to CSC, Kuhn Day campers arrive each weekday on school buses from Philadelphia and some local neighborhoods to participate in a fun-filled day program. Then at 4PM the campers head home - happy and tired but ready for another camp day! Staff working at Kuhn Day camp have the option of living on or off site. It is the perfect position for local students and teachers looking for a worthwhile summer adventure.
THE TEEN ADVENTURE PROGRAM:
Mid-June through mid-August
Thirteen and fourteen year olds who have participated in the residential camp program at The College Settlement may apply to the Teen Adventure Program. This is a twelve day high adventure travel camp which is limited to twelve youngsters each session. We recruit three trip leaders to plan and execute these incredible journeys with the cream of the crop of former campers.

To answer some common questions that we are asked by potential resident camp staff, here is a short list containing random information that may help you out…
1. WHERE IS THE CAMP?
Horsham, PA. It is in a suburban setting, 2 hours from NY City, 45 minutes by train from Philadelphia and 1 ½ hours from the beach. It’s beautiful, flat, green and hot in the summer!
2. WHAT DOES THE CAMP LOOK LIKE?
The camp is actually an old farm, set on 235 acres. We have 2 pools, a great dining room, a small farm with donkeys, chickens, goats, etc., an organic farm, floodlit playing courts with tennis, basketball and volleyball, green soccer/baseball pitches, a 3 acre pond, streams, woodlands, fields. We are in a residential area, and close to all modern conveniences, but it seems like we are out in the middle of nowhere! We have a wonderful, wild outpost in the Pocono Mountains that we take our older campers to for 4 days.
3. WHAT ARE THE CAMPERS LIKE?
Our campers are ages 8-12, and are regular, ordinary kids from the city of Philadelphia. Some come through social service agencies, some are recruited through their school counselors, and some have been sent by parents and grandparents who were campers here themselves. The best part of our summer camp program is the fun of working with such great kids.
4. WHERE DO I SLEEP?
The cabins have 3 or 4 staff and 16-19 kids. The counseling staff stay in a separate room in the same building as the campers. The cabins have electricity, heat, water, showers.
5. WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAY LIKE?
Breakfast, play, swim, lunch, rest, swim, play, dinner, play, shower, sleep! We have specialized staff teach swimming, science, adventure and craft activities alongside the counselors.
When the kids arrive, we offer a lot of support services for staff, believing that if you are happy and feel supported- you will be a better person with the kids.
