Spend this Summer Under the California Stars Helping Children, Teens and Families Affected by Type-I Diabetes

Celebrate our 72nd summer of camping with diabetes with us by joining our camp staff!

Bearskin Meadow Camp is on of the oldest and largest residential summer camps serving children, teens and families affected by type-1 diabetes. We’re located in the breathtaking Sequoia National Forest, 65 miles east of Fresno (Central California), at an elevation of 5,800 feet.

We have a large variety of summer camp staff positions available for the 2009 camping season. Staff and volunteers may pick and choose which sessions they wish to work (see our camp dates below). Our staff members come from all over California, the country and the world.

Staff and volunteers are the heart and soul of Bearskin Meadow Camp! It is their dedication, creativity, professionalism and enthusiasm that create what we call the Bearskin Magic that keeps campers and staff coming back year after year.

We are accreditation by the American Camp Association.

Programs and Staff

At Bearskin Meadow Camp we look for staff and volunteers who are dedicated to working with children, teens and families affected by type-1 diabetes. It is important that all staff members are able to work in a fast paced environment, as part of a team in a professional manner and who have the skills and enthusiasm necessary to keep the camp spirit alive and thriving throughout the summer. All staff and volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

Our camp has approximately 50 -70 staff and volunteers at any given time. No special medical training or knowledge is required to work at camp. Approximately 60% of our staff have diabetes, and the rest are willing and eager to learn. A one week pre-camp staff training is mandatory for all staff members (new and returning). This time not only allows us the opportunity to bond as a staff but also provides us with a time to develop skills necessary to work with campers of all ages and to learn about diabetes.

We are currently looking for counselors, counselor supervisors, program assistants, program coordinators, prep-cooks, dishwashers, lifeguards and maintenance workers.

Activities at Bearskin Meadow Camp include but are not limited to the following: archery, day trekking, backpacking trips, overnights, swimming, fine arts, performing arts, crafts, ceramics, sports, photography, field games, variety shows, many late night campfires, team building activities, camp wide games and diabetes education.
