Since 1962 the Legion Athletic Camp, located in the International Peace Garden straddled on the Manitoba-North Dakota border, has been a leader in the development of amateur sports.
At present the camp is home for a dozen sports including an elementary sampler program where youngsters in Grades 4-6 can participate in a number of sporting and recreational activities for a week.
Most athletes attending the camp are in Grades 7-12. However, equestrian will accept riders as young as 10 if it is proven they can handle the rigors of the week-long program.
Athletes as young as seven can enter the gymnastic program where the development of athletes in that sport begins at a tender age.
Last year (2006) more than 1,300 athletes attended the 45th annual camp over a six-week period with the sports of basketball, elementary camp, equestrian, gymnastics, judo, sailing, soccer, track and field (advanced and beginners) , volleyball and wilderness. Athletes from around the world attend this program.
This year we have added Ultimate Frisbee to our program.
The camp has grown and developed into one of North America's top athletic camps for school-aged children and is operated by some of the finest coaches anywhere.
.The 46th Legion Athletic Camp operates from July 8- August 18, 2007. Registration is now available and based on a first-come first-serve basis. Cost is $409 (Canadian) and includes coaching,. lodging and all meals.
