More About Camp
Elementary and Middle School artists engage in hands-on mixed-media art making activities that explore Storytelling (June 18-22) as well as the work of Famous Artists (June 25-29). In our Rags to Flags Papermaking week (July 2-6), discover how handmade paper is an art form in and of itself then Delve into Drawing (July 9-13) in both two- and three-dimensions.

High School artists: Immerse yourself in a week-long Design and Screen Printing workshop (July 16-20). Then jump right in to learn the latest styles and techniques in our Drawing Intensive (July 23-27). Or take both! These High School Studio workshops emphasize techniques that are both advanced and accessible. At Camp Kala you are sure to leave with portfolio ready pieces and the gratification that comes with your new or improved artistic ability.

During the 2D Design Fundamentals and Screen Printing week, high school students will discover the versatile processes of cut paper stencils and photo-emulsion screen printing to access fundamentals of two-dimensional design. Learn the concepts needed to create high impact graphics as well as harmonious visual balance while pulling single and multi-color prints.

The Contemporary Drawing Strategies workshop, will expand your drawing skills with photo-editing technology for a new take on photo-realism. To achieve greater depth and vibrancy, you will also experiment with the textural properties of Sumi ink and apply color theory to life drawing. Following contemporary trends that integrate pattern, cartooning, and abstraction, you will learn how to combine techniques and genres into complex and rich works of art that will enliven your college portfolio.
