The Cibolo Nature Center's Nature Camp and Art Camp are state-licensed camps that provide children ages 6 to 12 with an opportunity for up-close, hands-on nature education or a chance to experience creating art based on the beauty of the outdoors. Both camps are held amid the Cibolo Nature Center’s 162-acre nature preserve bordered by Cibolo Creek in Boerne. Each of the Cibolo Nature Center’s summer camps takes place for five days with seven sessions beginning June 11 and ending Aug. 3. Session topics vary, so campers may sign up for more than one week. Early registration, Feb. 1-May 31, provides a discount in attendance fees. Those who sign up for more than one session receive additional discounts.
During Nature Camp, participants will explore the CNC’s entire preserve while they participate in a nature-education curriculum designed by certified science teachers. Nature Camp takes place Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Weekly sessions will include Creek Week, Things With Wings, Rowdy Reptiles, Something’s Fishy, Cibolo Native Americans, Race for the Creek and It IS Easy Being Green.
Art Camp will encourage a comfortable, creative and fun environment in which children will learn to develop techniques and skills using various media with inspiration from the natural world. Art Camp is held Mondays through Fridays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Weekly topics will be Color Kaleidoscope; Paper, Prints, Books and Boxes; Exploring Textures in Texas; What’s Your View?; Discovery-Scapes; Deep in the Art of Texas; and Collage, Create, Combine! Art supplies are included in registration fees.
