Welcome to the world of Colonial Maryland! Colonial Adventures offers children the opportunity to spend part of their summer experiencing colonial life in a hands-on, experience-based environment. If this sounds like just another school field trip with tours and lectures, think again. Your child will live the colonial life dressing in period clothing, hearth cooking their own lunch, learning colonial crafts (including making leather journals, writing with quill pens and more), and playing colonial games and throwing tomahawks. These are just some of the activities that will be available:
• Arts and Crafts activities will include making Sweet Bags, journals and marbles, and writing with quill pens and much, much more!
• Hearth Cooking will include baking bread, making Hoe Cakes, cooking a full colonial meal and making ice cream.
• Throughout the week your child will master games such as The Captain’s Coming!, Capture the Flag, Nine Mens’ Morris, Shut the Box and so much more.
• Your child will have the opportunity to practice such colonial skills as Tomahawk Throwing, creating/decoding Cipher Codes, Riddles, Spinning/Weaving and Rope Making.
We will spend half a day learning some of the ways spies sent and received secret coded messages. We will even become pirates for a day-- acquiring a pirate name, searching for buried treasure, and terrorizing the Chesapeake Bay! Through a wide variety of hands-on and experience-based activities your child won’t realize they are learning, they’ll just think they’re having fun!
