The New York Summer Music Festival returns for another incredible summer of musical opportunities and challenges at SUNY Oneonta!
Offering more than 50 ensembles & classes, NYSMF gives its talented students the chance to perform in and enjoy more than 30 high-level concerts every summer. Campers work daily one-on-one with our top faculty from Juilliard, Curtis, the Manhattan School of Music, the NY Pops Orchestra, and many more top musical institutions.
NYSMF students are also provided with opportunities to study with such acclaimed visiting artists as: Pamela Frank, Ida Kavafian and Aaron Rosand; world-renowned violinists; Richard Woodhams, principal oboe of the Philadelphia Orchestra; Anthony McGill, principal clarinet of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; Jeanne Baxtresser, former principal flute of the New York Philharmonic; Peter Bond of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, trumpet; Harold Robinson, principal bass of the Philadelphia Orchestra; Peter Wiley of the Guarneri String Quartet, and many others.
Student study extensively in many areas of instruction, including: Orchestras and bands for instrumentalists; Choral ensembles and original music theatre projects for vocalists; Composition workshops; A number of jazz classes and ensembles for those who desire intensive jazz training, and; Classes introducing new instruments, such as beginning piano and beginning guitar.
In addition to supplemental classes spanning a wide range of ability levels and interests in areas of: music history, theory, computer technology in music, filmmaking, jazz improvisation, and many others!
