More About Camp
Located on 135 forested acres and completely surrounded by 365,000 acres of Vermont's Green Mountain National Forest, Night Eagle exists to introduce boys of today to the wonders of nature and to offer them that rare moment in which they can slow down, escape the modern world of television and video games, and discover new aspects in the meaning of life.
We are a primitive camp whose way of life is designed to build a boy's self-confidence and foster a better understanding of native peoples and their relationship with the earth.
Activities at Night Eagle tend to spring from the environment and teach boys to rely on their own ingenuity. Spontaneity is the order of the day. Activities range from gathering fresh berries and cranking homemade ice cream to picking up a new skill at the waterfront or hammering out a decision affecting the whole community.
Without the distractions of the outside world, campers are soon busy tanning hides, creating birch bark baskets, making moccasins and rattles, carving possession sticks and bull roarers, and learning various beading techniques.
At Night Eagle, campers can learn to survive in the wilderness, make their own bow and arrows, master the art of tracking and camouflage, identify wild edibles, and start fires with flint and steel or a bow drill. They can also learn to throw tomahawks and atlatls and to shoot bows and arrows safely.
Music, games and skits also play an important part in a boy's summer at Night Eagle. With no radios in camp, many campers and staff will spend their free time learning to play a guitar, banjo, or other musical instrument.
In all there are over a hundred different activities that campers can choose from during the course of the summer. The possibilities are limited only by what the imagination can devise.
Our two private lakes surrounded by young forest, and our own wetlands provide an ideal setting for all types of waterfront activities and are well-suited for developing a boy's self-confidence and physical coordination.
With the Appalachian Trail and Vermont's Long Trail running along our western border we are able to off a wide variety of wilderness trips where campers can enjoy firsthand the deep forest, clear streams, and beautiful mountains of New England.
