More About Camp
Using digital film technology, students will take on some of the roles involved in the world of film production. Rather than try to mimic Hollywood, we use an independent filmmaking model—a process we hope the students can replicate when they make video projects on their own. This year, we will offer an advanced program for returning students or those with more experience. For all students, the workshop begins with intensive script writing.
Working in groups, students will develop 10-minute short scripts highlighting strong storylines, believable characters and exciting dialogue. Students will then “pitch” their scripts in a selection process. Chosen scripts will be filmed, allowing students to experience acting, directing and producing. Students will also serve as crew members, and learn about digital video cameras, sound, editing, lighting, location scouting, and other skills required to produce an independent short.
New this year: Acting for the Camera
All students will also study acting for the camera. Our instructors will introduce beginning and more advanced student actors to the skills required when performing for a camera. These acting skills will be showcased in a separate faculty-directed film.
