Summer Theatre Camp for Ages 7-17 Arlington/Alexandria

Schedule:

Week 1 – July 9-13, 2012

Teens and Pre-teens: Improv week! Students will learn about short form improv and theater sports of all types. Improvisational theatre games teach the fundamentals of theatre and stagecraft. Emphasis is on developing humor skills.



Week 2 – July 16-20, 2012

Teens and Pre-teens: Classic Comedy week! What makes the comedy of Carol Burnett, Burns & Allen, and Abbott & Costello so timeless? Students will discover classic comedy sketches from the days of Vaudeville through the golden age of TV variety shows.



Week 3 – July 23-27, 2012

Teens: Long-form improv. Students will write and perform a play through "Second City" style improv methods.

Pre-teens: Fairy tale and folk tale week! This fun-filled week of improvisational theatre games will focus on classic folk tales and fairy tales as students learn the fundamentals of theatre and stagecraft. Students will stretch their imaginations and minds as they explore story structure.



Week 4 – July 30-August 3, 2012

Teens: Master Acting Class. The Master Class is designed for the serious acting students looking to further their exploration into advanced acting techniques. We explore the teachings of Stanislavski, Uta Hagen, and other great acting teachers. Class includes proper audition training, monologues, scene work, and improv.

Pre-teens: Party games for kids! Learn to host the best parties ever for your friends! Use improv for fun and entertainment, with games that can be played at parties, scouts or play dates. Each day will have a new theme.



Camps will be held at The Comedy Spot in Ballston Common Mall 4238 Wilson Blvd. Arlington, VA 22203 (walk from Metro!)

Special discounts are available for siblings and repeat campers.

Each session will also include workshops on theatre crafts and make-up techniques, as well as an introduction to theatre appreciation. Improvisation will happen every day!
