By providing real life design challenges in a fun camp environment UICA's Summer Art Camp will inspire, educate and engage your children’s creativity. Each session is designed to correspond to our summer exhibits providing children rich visual interactions with contemporary art.
SESSION I: JUNE 14–18
YOUNG DESIGNERS: 2D & 3D INVESTIGATIONS
9 AM–12 PM
Ages 5–8
Little hands have big ideas! Each day campers will design and create 2D and 3D artwork inspired by current UICA exhibitions’ themes and materials. Campers will learn basic design principles and techniques while exploring their own ideas and projects.
SITE IT: SCULPTURE AND INSTALLATION ART
1 PM–4 PM
Ages 9–13
This studio introduces sculptural techniques used in kinetic, suspended, and site-specific installations. Campers will explore contemporary artwork on exhibit at UICA and will then translate those concepts and materials into their own unique projects.
SESSION II: JUNE 21–25
SMALL BUILDERS: ARCHITECTURE AND PUBLIC SPACES
9 AM–12 PM
Ages 5–8
If you can think it you can build it. Campers will explore the basic elements of architecture with an emphasis on how built structures relate to the natural environment. They will translate their big ideas into images, models and larger scale work.
EXPLORING CERAMICS
1 PM–4 PM
Ages 9–13
Get your hands dirty and explore the fun world of ceramics! Learn hand-building techniques to create contemporary sculpture inspired by UICA’s current exhibitions. From traditional techniques to experimental, campers are encouraged to push the boundaries.
