The University of New Mexico’s (UNM) Interdisciplinary Film & Digital Media Program (IFDM) will offer summer camps that allow local students to experience Hollywood firsthand. UNM faculty and industry professionals will teach students ages 14-18 a variety of highly sought-after technical skills used in the latest film and digital media productions. There will be four camps offered the weeks of June 13 & July 25 (3D Animation), June 27 (Film), and July 11 (3D Modeling). Camps will take place at UNM's state-of-the-art Mesa del Sol facility, located on University Blvd. just south of the Albuquerque International Sunport. The camps will bring together the finest in instruction, technology, and facilities to immerse students in a university level learning environment.
In the 3D Modeling course students will learn to digitally recreate everyday objects, people, and places using the same computer software that was used in the making of Spiderman, Star Wars II, Lord of the Rings, and Avatar. The 3D Animation course will focus on bringing already existing objects to life with poses and movement. The Film course will teach students the basics of video production including camera operations, script analysis, directing, producing and editing. Students will produce short TV commercials, from prep to final cut that will be aired locally.
