Our facility reflects a time of the past, all of our facilities and equipment for activities meet, or exceed the standards set forth by the prestigious American Camping Association and moreover, our preference for limited enrollment affords all campers full participation throughout camp. Our campers enjoy full, fun days by participating in routinely scheduled and special rotation activities. Our highly skilled Camp Counselors provide specialized instruction in all activity areas and each are carefully screened and chosen for their skills and experience.
In addition our counselors are selected on demonstrated levels of maturity, integrity, sensitivity and communication skills with children. All of our junior counselors have been long time Thunderbird campers themselves and each year several applicants are painstakingly chosen by the Camp Directors. Activity groups are kept small with staff to camper ratios at 1:4. Safety is of utmostimportance in all of our activities at the ranch and all of our counselors are certified in Red Cross First Aid & CPR.
Horsemanship
We offer a comprehensive western and english riding program, with horses and instructors well suited for either the beginner, intermediate or advanced riders. Our campers learn grooming, handling, horse anatomy, and the identification and care of tack and equipment. Our riding trails traverse over 600 acres of ranch land right on the Russian River in the heart of the Sonoma Wine Country.
Waterfront Activities
Waterfront activities are an integral part of our summer program. We offer Red Cross swim classes in our modern pool with certified Water Safety Instructors on duty at all times, and we provide campers with ample leisure swimming daily including occasional outings on the Russian River.
