The NC Therapeutic Riding Center is seeking an energetic, responsible, and fun-loving director for our inclusive summer camp! Must have prior experience working with children. Experience with horses is preferred but not required.
We have 6 one-week camps with a variety of themes and activities, all centered around our horses and farm environment. Camps will be held Monday – Friday, from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, on the following weeks:
June 17 – 21 June 24 – 28 July 8 – 12 July 15 – 19 July 22 – 26 July 29 – Aug 2
Planning hours are on a flexible basis prior to the start of camp.
-Certified in CPR/First Aid, or able to certify prior to June 1, 2019.
-Available to work all weeks of camp, with flexible planning and setup/teardown hours prior to and following camp. Director must be able to attend orientation prior to camp and to lead an orientation for camp counselors prior to the start of camp.
-Experience working with and designing activities for children with and without disabilities.
-Experience riding horses in an English discipline is preferred, but not required.
-This job will require you to pass a background check and drug test.
-This is a contract summer job, with the possibility of annual renewal and other opportunities throughout the year for the right candidate. Combining this position with internship requirements may also be a possibility. Salary range is flexible as the job can be structured somewhat to meet the needs of the selected candidate.
The camp director designs activities and daily schedules for campers, ensuring that campers with and without disabilities can engage fully in camp. Activities includes arts and crafts, reading, games, daily riding lessons, painting ponies, etc. Our camp goal is to ensure that every child can participate equally and enjoy the summer camp experience, regardless of their abilities. Campers are supported by volunteer counselors with a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio to support full participation. The camp director will supervise up to 12 volunteer counselors and 12 campers, ages 5 – 12, with and without disabilities. The camp director ensures that all camp activities are safe, positive, enriching, and fun in an inclusive atmosphere.
Our programs bring together children with and without disabilities and offer a chance to participate in riding and many other equine-related activities. Participants learn tolerance, compassion and respect for differences while improving their horsemanship skills.

Volunteer Camp Counselor Positions available
Our camps include 1:1 or 1:2 volunteer support so that children with and without disabilities are able to engage as fully as possible in all camp activities. Our minimum age for volunteering is 15. Prior experience with horses or children with disabilities is welcome but not required; all that's needed is enthusiasm and willingness to learn with our campers! We provide documentation for service hour requirements and are sometimes able to provide credit via internships as well.
