Katy Robotics Camp was started in January 2016 to fill a need for quality STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education in the Katy area. Katy Robotics Camp provides after-school, spring break and summer camps for kids ages 8 – 11 years.
At our robotics camps for kids, you’ll work in small teams, experiment, and learn about the basics of robotics and coding. Our staff is passionate about robotics, science and engineering and love to teach critical skills such as creativity, problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork.
The lessons and challenges support common core standards in math and science. Through a unique blend of lecture, hands-on activities, game play and challenges we keep our students engaged, entertained and focused on their tasks.
The lessons teach math, physics, and computer science concepts using hands-on, engaging activities with a small robot and a tablet. Students work in teams of two to write computer programs that control how the robot rolls and appears. The lessons start with an introduction and follow the Common Core Math Standards that are relevant to the lessons. Students will fill out a worksheet to record their observations and results of the experiments.
The CORE lessons cover:
Math: Percentages, division, geometry, and patterns
Physics: Speed, time, and distance
Computer Science: Program flow, variables, conditionals, and reading sensors
