Socially Aware Young Farmers.
(entering Grades 6 through 9)
A two week project based class this program combines hands on Farm work whilst also exploring some of the key social and environmental issues facing our community today.
By the end of the two weeks each participant will have an individual project that represents what it means to them, personally to be a Socially Aware Young Farmer. Students will then display their work at a special evening for friends and family here at the Farm.
Each day time will be allocated to working on the farm whether that be harvesting produce for our snack, general farm maintenance work or preparing for shareholder pick up or for the food pantry delivery.
Over the course of the two weeks we will explore a range of key topics including the local v global debate, organic v non-organic, accessibility to healthy food and Fair Trade. Through discussion, interactive activities and games the goal is to challenge students to think about our existing food system and its impact on the environment, the future and others. At the end of each day students will be given time to reflect on the activities of the day and work on their Individual project.
Tue – Fri 9:00 am to 12:30pm for the two weeks start on Tue July 10th and end on Fri 20th.
Fee: Friends of the Farm $288, General Public $320
