Camp Dixie is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Clayton, Georgia. Camp Dixie is one of the south's oldest private camps, established in 1914. For over 97 years, generations of families have been experiencing the magic of Dixie. Camp Dixie provides a supportive, family-like environment by limiting its enrollment to 70 campers. Camp Dixie offers one, two, three, four, five or six week sessions. A complete range of traditional camp activities are offered: riflery, canoeing, kayaking, arts and crafts, drama, swimming, archery, overnights, camp-crafts and hiking and many others. All activities are offered at Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels and campers get to choose their activities. Special evening activities are scheduled throughout the sessions. Some of camp favorites are scavenger hunts, dinner theater, counselor hunt, luau and the Dixie Olympics.
Our caring staff is composed mainly of Dixie alumni who carry on the Dixie tradition of wanting to create the magic for new campers – of giving back thus passing on “The Dixie Way”. A low camper to counselor ration of 4:1 ensures that each camper benefits from a nurturing environment. With small cabin size and small activity classes, children receive more personal attention.
What makes Dixie unique is our friendly, family type atmosphere. We do know everyone’s name. Campers are encouraged, valued and accepted. Each camper is given the opportunity to excel and thrive. Forming life long friendships and developing an appreciation for the outdoors are just part of the Dixie experience.
Camp Dixie seeks to:
-Develop character, self-reliance and leadership skills through our 7 principles: Domestically True, Physically Robust, Mentally Strong, Morally Brave, Vocationally Correct, Spiritually Deep and Politically Sound
-Provide opportunities to develop lifelong friendships
-Develop the spirit, mind and body through challenging and fun camp activities
-Foster awareness and respect for our natural environment
-Further their social skills and strengthen their own self awareness
