More About Camp
Camp Pondicherry, our oldest and largest site, is located on 700 acres of unspoiled fields and forest in the foothills of the White mountains. Sessions run in length from one to five weeks, and can accommodate up to 150 campers per session. Pondicherry has specialty programs in drama, art, horseback riding, outdoor skills and leadership. An on-site low ropes course and portable climbing wall are available, and the camp has a private waterfront where girls may swim, kayak or canoe.
Camp Kirkwold, located in Central Maine, rests on 100 acres of woodlands and focuses on traditional camp activities. Kirkwold has a private waterfront area where girls can swim, canoe, and kayak. Sessions run in length from one to three weeks, and can accommodate 60 campers per session. Kirkwold offers specialty programs in horseback riding, leadership, outdoor skills, drama and art.
Camp Scelkit offers an intimate camping environment with only 15 girls per session. Located on a tidal marsh, Scelkit allows teens to discover the Maine coast and explore the surrounding area. Session lengths are 1 week.
All camps offer rustic living in platform tents, and opportunities for girls to build courage, confidence and character in the Maine outdoors.
Pondicherry has a staff of 45, with approximately 18 International staff. Kirkwold has a staff of 20 including 8 International staff, and Scelkit has a staff of 5.
Girl scout camps are unique in the way that staff interact with campers. A special emphasis is placed on girl-driven activities, and campers are encouraged to learn decision making skills and be involved in the group process. A large percentage of staff and campers return to camp, and many of our staff attended our camps as kids.
