DISCOVERY CAMP - Ages 7 to 13

Science, adventure, and fun collide in a traditional camp setting as campers experience hands-on education and build lifelong connections with friends throughout a week filled with challenging adventure, team-building activities, and time-honored songs by the campfire. Each session incorporates lessons and activities focused around educational themes such as comparative ecology, astronomy, local history and wildlife biology.

BACK FOR 2013! Choose Your Own Adventure
During registration, Discovery Campers can now choose one of three adventure options for their chosen session(s). Options now vary by session theme.

Discovery Camp DELUXE: 12 Day Camp! Ages 7 to 13

In response to demand for longer programs, KSS is proud to present the biggest, funnest, most amazingly magical camp program yet: Discovery Camp DELUXE. This session packs TWELVE days chock-full of science, adventure and fun. That means multiple field days studying mountain life zones; multiple nights under the stars; multiple Adventure Days featuring rafting, horseback riding, sailing, or other exciting escapades. We’ll have enough time to enjoy literally ALL campers’ favorite games, evening programs and songs. It will be incredible, unbelievable, legendary … truly deluxe!

Some highlights include:

• Discovery Day – These are day hikes packed full of hands on education and a lot of fun. Campers explore and learn about the great mountain ecosystems of the Colorado Rockies.

• Overnight Backpacking Trip and Night Hike - Campers load their packs and head out into the wilds of the Rockies for an evening under the stars. After dinner at the campsite campers take a night hike with KSS staff to learn about the dark lives of nocturnal animals. Early in the morning each group prepares for the ultimate adventure the highly awaited…

• CHALLENGE HIKE!! - Here staff and campers set out on an all-day excursion to a nearby alpine lake, majestic peak or high altitude destination. Campers are rewarded with amazing views and a wonderful sense of accomplishment after achieving their goals.

• Whitewater Rafting - Each camper has the option to go on a rafting trip with other campers their age. Campers will ride water up to Class 3+ depending on age.

INTRO TO DISCOVERY CAMP - Ages 5 to 10

Specially designed for children new to the overnight camp experience, Intro to Discovery Camp is a shorter, scaled-down version of a traditional week-long Discovery Camp session. This allows children to build confidence and independence while developing an appreciation of the natural world through science education, exploration, and the traditional fun of summer camp. This summer, we’re offering a three night introductory option. These sessions do not feature offsite adventure days or wilderness camping (but, weather permitting, there will be an outdoor on-site camping experience!)

DAY CAMP - Ages 5 to 12

Our popular Day Camp provides hours of non-stop science, adventure and fun each summer weekday.
Each week, this completely original program features a different science-based theme that speaks to the minds and imaginations of young campers. At KSS, your child can transform into a pirate, superhero, astronaut, or botanist— complete with costumes, hands-on activities, and outdoor adventures. We incorporate creative activities, teambuilding, and investigative learning into each day.

COUNSELOR ASSISTANT PROGRAM (C.A.P.) – Ages 14 to 17

The CAP program offers teens the opportunity to serve as role models, develop as leaders, and make a difference in the lives of others. ‘CAPs’ take part in all aspects of the Discovery Camp program: Activity implementation, organizing campers, and participating in special leadership programs tailored just for them. This is a very popular program and we take great pride in our CAPs. Several of our counselors began their camp journeys as CAPs!

KEYSTONE MOUNTAIN ADVENTURES (KMA) - Ages 14 to 17

These longer, expedition-based sessions offer teens nonstop action and outdoor adventure. Exploration, hands-on education, and leadership development come together for a once-in-a-lifetime Rocky Mountain experience. Sessions range from two ten-day trips to an extended thirteen-day adventure. Participants will explore high-altitude Colorado by land, water, rope and rock. Team-building activities and low-impact wilderness travel principles are incorporated as we backpack through mountain landscapes, camp along the edge of wild rivers, and safely scale dramatic rock faces, learning about alpine weather and fire ecology as we go. Trip highlights include a professionally-guided whitewater rafting trip, soaking in hot springs, and an attempt at summiting one of Colorado’s mighty peaks.

So choose your adventure and experience the best Colorado has to offer with Keystone Science School!
