Day and Residents camps are available for Youth ages 7-16. Children are grouped with a counselor who will provide social facilitation and direct instruction. We maintain a low camper to counselor ratio with highly trained staff usually 3 to 1 with a limited number of 1 to 1 counselors. Our inclusive, recreation camping programs are in partnership with YMCA, Camp Widjiwagan. Programs that include typical peer models can often help children learn and imitate the activity more quickly. Becoming proficient at an activity such as a sport can increase acceptance by the peer group and improve the participants self esteem and confidence. The latter enable the camper to develop essential social skills that they are unable to gain naturally. At Easterseals Camp children can meet new people and expand their interests by participating in group recreation all the while learning to take turns, sportsmanship, follow directions and cooperation. Staff and program content are utilized that supports play skills, social skills and participation in group activities. Children learn to improve self awareness and acceptance of themselves, to develop pro-social behaviors and language through targeted social coaching. We give the children opportunities to succeed in summer activities. Structure during the summer controlled through informal naturalistic environment and positive orientation. We strive for our campers to gain a sense of independence, engage with others, try new things and build skills.
Adult campers may choose from a week long resident camp in August or a weekend camp in October, December and March during the off season. We maintain a 1 to 4 Counselor to Camper ratio with a limited amount of 1 to 1 spots.
