Take a seat this summer in the director's chair and gain hands on experience with writing, shooting film/video, and post production at a film making camp. Get behind the lens of a video camera and learn proper operation and technique from qualified professionals. Write, review, and edit a storyline and make a script come alive on film. At some film camps, you may elect to take advantage of hands on 3-D computer animation creation and rendering.

THE DMA EXPERIENCE

Founded in 2002 by technology educators from Stanford University, and led by former Stanford educators and interactive education and entertainment creators from Apple and Walt Disney Studios - Digital Media Academy delivers a world-class digital learning experience.

Learn video game design, iPhone and iPad App development, Google Android app development, robotics, computer programming using Java or C+++, digital filmmaking, digital photography, website design, 3D modeling, animation and so much more.

Beginning to advanced student campers age 6-18 learn by doing with hands-on instruction from industry professionals, with real-world experience. DMA builds and develops STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) skills - many of DMA’s instructors have literally written the book on the subject that they teach. DMA Alumni include television and music producers, filmmakers, professional photographers as well as game and app developers.

At DMA, students experience life on the campus of a prestigious American university like Stanford, Harvard or UCLA (just to name a few) while making friends and learning with others who share the same interests. Small class sizes (8:1 max) guarantee a personalized experience. Students work on their own personal project in every class.*

2. Empow Summer Workshops- Locations Throughout Greater Boston - This is not your average computer camp! Video gamemaking, animation, engineering, LEGO robotics, movie production, and digital design are just some of the exciting possibilities for kids in grades 2-8 at Empow Summer Workshop.

Empow Workshop is not a typical day camp - it is the place for kids ages 7 - 13 to explore video production, video game design, animation, LEGO robotics, architecture, and digital music! Focus on one technology of particular interest, complete mini-projects with each new technology, or combine several disciplines into one epic presentation! Experienced staff instructors guide students in making their own, creative projects, and the week ends with a presentation of all student work.

Full-day, half-day, and extended day options offered.

3. Young Artist Residency Program - Interested in creating an impressive art portfolio and earning college credit? Study with professional artists while exploring the culturally rich city of Boston during a 4 week artist residency at The Art Institute of Boston in July.

The Young Artist Residency Program 2010 at The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts is designed for high school students who will be entering their junior or senior year in the Fall of 2010. This intensive program of four-weeks of classes and art-making during July is designed to offer a professional art college experience while living on campus.

A student who applies and is selected to attend will:

*Select a full schedule of classes from over 50 exciting course offerings in the areas of Artistry, Technology, and Professions in the Visual Arts
*Discover Boston, a beautiful world-class city rich in history, the arts, nearby beaches, and consistently ranked #1 of the "Big City College Towns"
*Join a thriving art college community
*Receive 6 college credits for successful completion of courses and enrichment activities

4. Young Broadcasters of America - Produce TV Webcasts live on the Internet-commerical parodies, news, sports , weather

Have you ever wanted to be on TV? Host your own show? Whether you want to be on camera or behind, the staff at Young Broadcasters of America runs a one week YBA TV Today camp where you can do it all. Be a Talent, or a Director. Live remotes. Local sports, and media celebrities stop by to talk to the campers. Learn from the Pros in the Boston market.
Best of all you will have a blast!

5. Kid Filmmakers - Year-round traveling filmmaking academy for grades 1-12. Animation Vacation and Summer Shoot programs offered in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island for ages 10-15. Taught by film industry professionals.

Founded in 2002 by author Eleyne Austen Sharp, KID FILMMAKERS is committed to producing quality filmmaking programs for children to schools, libraries, community centers, film festivals, YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, churches and movie theaters. Year-round workshops include Animation Vacation, Cutting Loose, Faked You Out!, Film Wizard Workshop, Get Reel, Movie Maestros, Practical Pirates, Screen Stealers, ScriptKidz, Summer Shoot and TV Graffiti.

Faculty members are experienced film industry professionals with credits from MGM Pictures, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, Discovery Channel, NBC, PBS, Turner Broadcasting and more. (Some are film and television award winners!) Because we care, all staff members must pass a Background Criminal Investigation.

REGISTER NOW FOR SUMMER 2009: We offer a variety of one-week summer filmmaking programs for ages 10-15 in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island:

Animation Vacation – features anime, Claymation®, storyboarding, screenwriting, special effects, editing, daily film screenings and awards.

Summer Shoot – features videography, screenwriting, acting, directing, makeup, film screenings and awards. Each crew (divided by age) will produce a 1) documentary about peace or ecology, 2) Kid Filmmakers commercial, 3) silent film and 4) drama, comedy or musical. Selected projects will appear on the Kid Filmmakers YouTube channel.

Tuition for all summer programs includes a DVD copy of film projects and certificate of completion. (See our website for special Early Bird registration discounts.)

KID FILMMAKERS is pleased to offer partial and full scholarships to deserving recipients. Partial scholarships are designed to cover the difference between what a family can pay and the actual fee. Applications for scholarships will be processed on a first-come, first served basis until funds are depleted. Only one scholarship per family is available. All awards are confidential.

6. LINX Summer Camp at Elm Bank - LINX Camps offer a camp experience that fosters friendships, spirit and camaraderie. While campers get to enjoy specialty programs led by expert instructors, a large focus is also placed on the entire camp uniting as a community.

7. SMARTS Summer Institute - Since 1986 the SMARTS Summer Institute offers children grades K-12 creative writing, dance, drama, film/video, 3D computer animation, instrumental, vocal and visual arts. The program runs July 8 - August 2, 2013.

The SMARTS Summer Institute, the flagship program of the SMARTS Collaborative, has offered young people a unique opportunity to work with some of New England’s finest artists as they explore and learn through process and performance in creative writing, dance, drama, film/video, 3D computer animation, instrumental, vocal and visual arts and there’s swimming too. Open to children ages 5-18, the Summer Institute is about ideas, innovative and dynamic thinking and collaborations. It is the only opportunity in southeastern Massachusetts for arts interested and talented young people to have exposure to so many arts, taught by so many different artists, all under the same roof. This summer the program runs from July 8-August 2, 2013, 8:30-3:30 PM.

The creative work and discipline training revolves around a unifying theme that provides fertile ground for collaborations between the arts disciplines and helps to foster a range of perspectives. The 2013 theme is “Windows and Doors”. Recitals, the creation of outdoor community art works, Lunchtime Open Mike, a Talent Show, Elective Showcase, final performances, literary magazines and social events are part of the creative electricity that takes place during this intensive 4-week immersion into the arts. Over 1200 people attend the Summer Institute’s recitals and performances.
