Some academic camps provide a fixed location and concentrate on a single field of study, while other summer programs cover a more diverse range of study topics and may travel or embark upon relevant field trips.

The Michigan Technological University Summer Youth Program will introduce you to careers and allow you to develop new skills through laboratory, classroom, and field experiences. The program includes more than seventy one-week explorations, scheduled over multiple weeks. You may attend only one exploration per week, but can register for multiple weeks. Last summer, almost 900 students attended SYP from all over the United States, Puerto Rico, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Columbia, Monaco and Spain.

We offer 4 different types of programs:
* Summer Camps: Explorations for current 6th - 8th graders
* Career and Adventure Explorations: current 9th - 11th graders
* Competitive Scholarship Programs: current 9th - 11th graders
* Courses for College Credit: current 10th - 11th graders

An exploration is an intensive week-long look at a particular field or area of interest and is offered in six different categories designed to introduce you to a world of opportunities. Explorations allow you to learn to use a computer, rappel, or perform diagnostic chemical tests. In other explorations you could fly a plan, backpack through a scenic wilderness area, or cast molten metal. Each exploration is led by a Michigan Tech faculty member, graduate student, or other specialist in that particular field. You will spend approximately thirty-two hours investigating your area of interest through classroom activities, hands-on laboratory exercises, field trips, and discussions with your instructors and other students.

Enrollment is open until each class reaches seating capacity. Classes are limited to 20 students or less.
