Experience the unique setting of living, working, and playing at a real working ranch camp! Horseback riding is often central to programming at summer ranch camps. Western riding technique and vaulting (gymnastics on horseback) are typical core instruction components. Animal care, roping, swimming, and other sports are often a part of a summer ranch camp's program.

As Dr. Harlin Roper and a group of Christian leaders prayed under a tree on a hill in south Dallas, they felt a call from God to found a camping ministry. On that spot November 11, 1937, Camp El Har, “Hill of God” was founded. Early camp leaders envisioned that all who entered the gates would be ministered to by God’s word in the midst of His beautiful creation. Their dream became a reality as the camp began to grow, becoming the first independent Christian camp in the state of Texas.
Today the facility is owned and operated by the Assemblies of God and functions as a nonprofit, year-round Christian camp and retreat center. It is beautifully nestled on 52 acres of wooded hills near Joe Pool Lake in southwest Dallas, and offers a variety of unique programs for both day and overnight campers.
The horses have been at the heart of Camp El Har since the very beginning. No matter what your experience level we have a horse that is appropriate for everyone. All of our horses are safe and friendly and our trained wranglers will welcome you with open arms.
At Camp El Har groups, ages 10 and up, can work together to improve communication and problem solving through our exciting team building ropes course! The course includes challenging activities both on the ground and in the air designed to keep everyone involved and engaged. We have seasoned instructors who work hard to ensure your group has a great time and is able to safely expand their boundaries.
