Welcome to Summer Camps on the River 2011 where Great journeys begin at the River!

Christchurch School offers fun, engaging, and enriching programs that cultivate physical, emotional, and spiritual growth of our campers.

With three fun filled weeks, campers will discover what is in and around the water that surrounds the campus. Perched atop a hill, in historic Middlesex County, overlooking the majestic waters of the Rappahannock River, Christchurch School has been helping youth begin their journey for the past 90 years.

Your camper will live in an air conditioned dormitory room supervised by our highly trained staff. Each hall will house 20 campers (double room occupancy) and at least 3 counselors, with an overall staff to camper ratio of 1 to 4. You can be assured your camper's physical and emotional safety is our top priority.

During the day, your camper will enjoy their chosen discipline of sailing, marine science, or fishing with other campers who have chosen the same activity. In the evening, campers will enjoy traditional camp activities like camp fires, field games, talent shows, or the end of the week dance.

Summer Camps on the River prides itself on helping campers connect with the community around them. Every day campers will grow in independence and better understanding of the role they play in the camp community. This is done through hands-on interactions with coaches, teachers, counselors, and other campers. Campers discover the world around them and the impact they have on that community, through a greater understanding of environmental impacts and character development.

We look forward to the journey of 2011 Summer Camps on the River and hope that you will choose to spend time with us. If you have any questions, please contact the Director of Summer Programs, Amanda Porter at (804) 758-2306 ext 129.

Camp Connections is located on 26 wooded acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Connections Youth Camp presents campers with fun activities and novel learning experiences daily from June 18th through July 26th. Each fun-filled week Connections staff present a new theme challenging campers aged 6-12 with exciting opportunities to connect to the world around them.

Camp Connections was founded by Skip King and Alita McManis King, who have 40 years of combined experience working with children of all ages.

Ms. McManis King worked with students in Jefferson County Public Schools for twenty six years. During the last four years of her career Ms. McManis King designed and implemented programs to support at-risk high school students as they worked toward graduation and employment. Her programs, built with community outreach, partnering with local businesses, tutoring, counseling, and a sense of humor, were life changing for many students!

Mr. King is a Post Graduate licensed teacher, Master of Special Education, Wilson Reading Instructor, and TaekwonDo Black Belt instructor. Mr. King founded and directed a highly successful adventure learning camp in Massachusetts, where his skill at making learning fun brought profound results. Mr. King has been researching and teaching TaekwonDo for 12 years. Mr. King has conducted TaekwonDo Kidz children's classes at FloydFest for the past five years and teaches at several schools locally including Beasley Martial Arts.

The key to our successful, safe, and fun camping program is quality staff and counselors. Staff are licensed teachers, college-aged students, and other specially qualified guest instructors . Counselors attend training sessions on camper safety, child development, appropriate counselor-camper contact, outdoor living skills, first-aid and CPR. All staff are trained to help ensure a positive camping experience for every child.

Together Mr. King, Ms. McManis King, the Connections Staff, and Counselors, look forward to meeting and sharing with your extraordinary children a dynamic, exciting, rewarding, summer camp experience full of fun and learning year after year.

CONNECT WITH NATURE & JOURNEY INTO THE HEART

The Living Earth School is a nature-based educational organization, started ten years ago by husband-wife team Kate and Hub Knott.  We are located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of central Virginia in the Charlottesville area.  Our facilities are bordered by Shenandoah National Park, The Blue Ridge Parkway and Appalachian Trail.  The mountains, forest, fields, creeks, ponds and waterfalls make our classroom perfect for deepening awareness and appreciation for the earth.  Our programs draw from both ancient and modern wisdom to help empower students to become better caretakers, mentors, and leaders.

In the last few years there has been increasing interest in sustainable living and concern over the growing divide between humans and nature.  We find The Living Earth School as part of a larger national movement to help people reconnect with the natural world, creating meaningful relationships and experiences. Our programs guide people to greater awareness and appreciation of the natural world, helping them live in a more heartfelt and connected way.
