Founded in 1905, YMCA Camp Seymour is located in Washington State on beautiful Glen Cove, only 30 minutes from Tacoma, Washington (just off scenic Carr Inlet in southern Puget Sound). Our site features 150 acres of forested hills and half a mile of saltwater shoreline on a protected estuary teeming with wildlife (including river otters, bald eagles, salmon, seals, and great blue herons). This is the setting for our year-round operation, offering programs to develop spirit, mind, and body in the YMCA tradition.

Summer Camp offers progressive, values-oriented, kid-centered programs for new and veteran campers 6-17 years old. With activities that combine exciting adventures, new friendships, and personal growth, the days we create are as unique as each of our campers. No wonder campers come back year after year.

Summer programs include Resident Camp (in-camp overnight programs for youth entering 1st-8th grade); Teen Adventure Trips (out-of-camp backpacking, sea kayaking or caravan adventures for youth entering 8th-12th grade) that develop outdoor, leadership and group living skills; and Teen Leadership Programs (for youth entering 9th -12th grade) that develop group leadership, membership, and interpersonal skills.

Family Camps let you bring your family here to experience the magic of camp together! Come share in the fun at YMCA Camp Seymour. Our program includes a variety of activities led and supervised by certified, well-trained staff, including campfires, canoeing, climbing wall and more. The whole family can join in, or you can take some time on your own. It's up to you!

Conferences and Retreats are held here often - our site is ideal for day or overnight use. Close enough for convenience, far enough to feel like wilderness, we offer the amenities of home for group rental from late August to mid-June. We promote opportunities for parents and children to build healthy relationships through the many Parent-Child (Y-Guides) groups that visit us.

Outdoor and Environmental Education adds a new dimension to outdoor education for youth, improving outdoor skills and environmental awareness. Going to school in an outdoor classroom is an experience students will treasure. We can host your school for just a day or an entire week.

All programs are accredited by the American Camp Association.

Rites of Passage is an old phrase. Our ancestors, the Native Americans, the Africans and many of the worlds cultures know its value.

Over time, many of us have lost the wisdom of the Rites of Passage. Now is the time to bring it back. Our ancestors knew how to live with the Earth. In todays world, we are forced into technology, materialism, subdivisions, cell phones, computers and on and on. It gets harder and harder to connect with Nature and our own natural cycles.

The Rite of Passage is a time to honor the individual that is in "change". There are 6 phases involved: Acknowledgment, Separation, Discovery, Silence, Initiation and Celebration.

We travel into the wilderness and we find ourselves, our true selves.

We will learn the Medicine Wheel and how it affects our lives. We will connect with the 4 Elements of Air-Water-Fire-Earth. We will learn how to make fire from our bare hands. We will think about our lives. We will spend time alone. We will discover who we are. We will learn to honor ourselves. We will begin to live.

During the silence phase, we will adventure into a time of quiet. The native people call it the Vision Quest. It is the most powerful experience that we know of. It is the climax of the Rite of Passage Journey. Once complete with the Vision Quest, the person will have transformed themselves into something new. This new person is one who they, themselves has designed.

Very powerful.

The Sweat Lodge is an ancient initiation, where hot rocks are brought into a small confined area. Within the lodge, we sing, silence and focus on our lives. It is a purification ceremony. It is cleansing.

Upon return, the person is greeted by some of his family members and life-long mentors. They meet "for the first time" ... again.

This journey is not for the light at heart. It is ceremony and ritual and it will change our lives... should we give it a chance.

Are you ready?

We invite you to join us.
