Camp Elliott Barker is home to a pond, high and low ropes course, a small historic dining hall, plenty of hiking trails, New Mexico’s oldest working horse barn, and one primitive outpost. Housing Units include platform tents and cabins with cots or bunk beds with mattresses. Each unit has campfire circles and wash areas with sinks and latrines.

Camp Elliott Barker celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2013. A brand new shower and bathroom facility was installed in the Aspen Glen cabin unit in 2017. Meals are served family-style in Hoffman Dining Hall.

Campers will visit the Wishing Chair, canoe or swim at Blackbird pond, do arts & crafts, visit our on-site observatory, and hike through the Underworld. Troops and families can also experience the adventure by attending one of our weekend camps or by renting the camp to have their own camp adventure.

{What types of summer programming does Elliott Barker offer?}
Elliott Barker offers overnight (resident) camping for girls entering grades 1st - 12th and weekend family / troop camps. DAY CAMP is ONLY for residents of Colfax and Taos county. You must provide a local address as proof of residency to apply for Day Camp (registration coming soon).

During your stay at camp you’ll be able to participate in classic camp fun like hikes, arts and crafts, outdoor skills, and songs. In addition to that you’ll be able to explore the high or low ropes course, learn about basic horse care (ground lessons), swim or canoe on the pond, or try your hand at the frisbee golf course!

Families and troops are also welcome to travel off camp to adventure in Angel Fire, Red River, Taos, or explore in Carson National Forest as long as they’re back by dinner!

Camp is a safe space for every camper, adult and youth. Plus, campers say camping is their most memorable outdoor experience in Girl Scouts! Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails welcomes girls, families, and staff of every race, ethnicity, income level, sexual orientation, and religion, and reflects a spectrum of gender identity. All camps are open to nonbinary youth who are affirmed in a girl focused environment. Girl Scouts is dedicated to all aspects of DEIRJ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Racial Justice); not just at camp.
