1. Wilderness Ventures - Since 1973, Wilderness Ventures has been conducting exciting expeditions for young adults in the Western United States and several international countries. Activities include backpacking, whitewater rafting & kayaking, mountaineering, biking, sailing, SCUBA, canoeing, sea kayaking, and community service.

Since 1973, Wilderness Ventures has been conducting exciting expeditions for beginners and experienced young adults, ages 11 through 20. Expeditions visit a variety of wilderness environments in the Western United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada, Europe, Australia, Central & South America, and the South Pacific for extended periods. Students learn outdoor and group leadership skills as well as gain an appreciation for various wilderness environments. Activities include backpacking, whitewater rafting & kayaking, mountaineering, biking, sailing, SCUBA, canoeing, sea kayaking, and community service. Participants come from nearly every state and several countries. Enrollment is limited, and applicants must submit school references prior to admission. Previous wilderness experience is not necessary.

Adventure Camp: Sea Kayak
6/9-13/08, 7/7-11/08
Cost: $529
This five day camp introduces students to the challenge, excitement, and rewards of sea kayaking. The camp is a combination day camp and over night camp. The first two days students learn paddling and rescue skills on local lakes and return home each night. On day 3 we drive to the ocean for a 3 day 2 night remote kayak camping trip.Transportation from Anchorage and the valley included in tuition. Camp is limited to 8 students with two ACA instructors.



Adventure Camp: Multi Sport

Sea Kayaking, Peak Climbing, Mountain Biking, Glacier Trekking, Whitewater Rafting! This is the ultimate summer experience for the active teen. Each day is filled with a different Alaskan outdoor adventure. Our first three days of adventure are day trips, students return to their homes each night. Thursday we leave for two days of glacier trekking and river running. Students will return to Anchorage or their Valley home around 6 pm on Friday.

Adventure Camp: Whitewater Kayaking

This 5 day camp allows teens to experience the excitement and thrill of running rapids in a whitewater kayak. Students learn all the strokes required to negotiate whitewater rapids including the Eskimo roll. The first day begins on a lake where students learn and perfect control and technique. Each day we move to a different body of water and increase the challenge of the adventure. Our ACA certified instructors have the training and background to make every lesson fun and safe. Upon completion, students are invited to attend our regular teen class each week during the summer.

4. Prince William Sound Science Center - Hike, kayak, and canoe while learning about the ocean, rainforest, glaciers, and wetlands of the Prince William Sound and Copper River Delta region of south central Alaska.

Explore the rich ecosystems of the Copper River Delta and the Prince William Sound by foot, canoe, and kayak. Science Camp is a great time to be active and have fun in the outdoors—and learn about the amazing landscape that surrounds you. During your week at camp you'll hike through the rainforest, explore Orca Inlet, and see glaciers up close. Each day will be filled with outdoor activities and hands-on exploration of the wild inhabitants of this region, including bears, salmon, birds, beavers, moose and more! Nights will be spent at our field camp on the beautiful Copper River Delta and will be filled with fun camp activities, delicious meals, crafts and games. Programs are led by our knowledgeable and caring staff, and we often invite local scientists to share their expertise with us. Science Camp is adventurous and fun, and by the end of the week you'll be able to see for yourself that from the forest to the sea...it's all connected!

Advanced high school students can study ocean science and marine environmental issues firsthand on the Ocean Science and Leadership Expedition (OSLE), an intensive ten-day field course that includes an overnight sea kayaking expedition. Participants will learn from local marine scientists and policy experts, develop leadership skills, and complete service and outreach projects. The course is based out of Cordova, Alaska and includes travel to and from Valdez on the Alaska State Marine Highway.
