Welcome to Precollege Summer Camps at NYU's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS). Students find themselves in the ideal environment to make lasting connections with industry professionals and to form friendships with interesting peers from all over the world.

NYU-SCPS Summer Camps are designed to provide a deeply enriching, intense period of study in subjects that fire the imagination while instilling confidence and pride by engaging fully in the creative process, from taking on artistic challenges to thoughtful and strategic problem solving. This workshop will provide participants a perfect environment, where through hands on experience, they learn the techniques of video production as a method of self expression while in a diverse environment with other participants from different cultural backgrounds. In 2009, given the theme, "Japan in New York", each group will explore aspects of Japanese culture and business in New York, which will afford participants the opportunity to learn about cross-cultural communication and diverse aspects of New York. Participants will take English as a Second Language (ESL) or Japanese as a Second Language (JSL) classes. Campers ages 4-7 enjoy a thrilling one-week launch into the world of multimedia storytelling. Kids 8-12 explore all aspects of filmmaking in a 3-week series of dynamic daylong workshops that include storyboarding, directing, special effects, costuming and make-up, watching movies, recording sound, stop-motion animation, and so much more! Teens 13-15 take part in a more advanced 3-week program, tailored to specific filmmaking disciplines. For ages 16-18, 3-week immersion programs in fiction and nonfiction filmmaking offer opportunities to participate in the entire production process, from storyboarding to shooting to editing. No experience necessary! At all levels, small groups are led by our renowned faculty and special guest instructors, assisted by trained counselors. Every session includes demonstrations, creative collaboration, and hands-on projects utilizing all the features of our state-of-the-art facility. Projects are kid-directed, so campers can build upon their skills by registering for multiple sessions. Each camp session ends in Family Friday, where families are invited to screenings of campers' finished projects. Campers will also take home a DVD of all their work. For ages 4-7, the camp day begins at 9am and ends at noon. For ages 8-15, camp sessions are 9am–4pm, with an 8am–5pm extended-day option. For ages 16-18, camp runs from noon to 7pm.

"For Fun, For Friends, Forever;" this is the heart of the Onyahsa experience- for the new camper or the veteran. Since its inception well over a century ago, YMCA Camp Onyahsa has been a great place for youth and families. Then as now, it offers security, authenticity, peace, and exciting fun; as necessary today as ever. In a beautiful wooded setting, on the edge of the lake, we don't only enjoy recreation; we aim to "re-create" in the Great Outdoors.

Celebrating its 112th year in 2010, Camp Onyahsa offers an exciting, genuine, and rewarding experience for any camper. Nestled in its own wooded bay on northern Chautauqua Lake, we offer traditional camp sessions, specialty camps, academic programs, teen activities, leadership development programs, extensive waterfront classes, outdoor environmental education, and much more. Each of our weeks has a fun theme as the focus of its activities, and is implemented by caring, committed and competent staff members.

Campers live in rustic single-sex, age-graded cabins or tents under the supervision of carefully selected and trained staff members. The Camp's directors and health staff also reside on site, and provide 24 hour per day supervision, and the Camp has a staff to camper ratio of at least 1:8.

All campers participate together in our special activities, such as campfires, skits, Club Time, theme nights, Olympic games, village nights, and other all-camp programs. Meanwhile, through age-group cabin and tent living with their adult counselors, campers learn as members of small groups to share and live cooperatively. The activities and living areas are staffed with well-qualified and highly committed counselors, who share the goal of making a stay at Onyahsa a truly rewarding experience for all members of the Camp Community.

The Onyahsa mission is to foster the healthy Spiritual, Intellectual, and Physical well-being of Camp Participants from diverse backgrounds within a nurturing outdoor environment, while creating a meaningful sense of Community among them through an active learning experience.
