Academy by the Sea offers several opportunities for campers interested in STEM-based classes, or looking to enhance their leadership skills.
Following expert guidance from local, state, and federal organizations, Army and Navy Academy operational procedures for operating safely amid the COVID-19 pandemic include but are not limited to: Wellness assessments performed throughout the day, Frequent facility sanitization following CDC standards, COVID testing protocols for campers and staff.
The Academy will educate campers on health protocols, including personal hygiene, sanitizing areas, proper use of face coverings, and reporting to the Health Center when not feeling well.
Your camper will learn to aim high and learn about the growing aviation field in this dynamic and educational summer program. Campers will engage with the principles of flight, aircraft anatomy, space travel, and crewless aircraft and discover careers in aviation, including how they can get their start by earning sport, glider, drone, and private pilot certificates.
Academy by the Sea is a co-ed summer camp that offers young people entering grades 7 through 12 a boarding and day camp experience unlike any other. Morning classes, exciting afternoon activities, and memorable off-site trips concentrate on developing campers' interests in various subjects.
Your camper will develop an appreciation for emergent fields like underwater drone photography and aquaculture, aviation, or computer science or enjoy more traditional subjects like leadership training, music, or athletics.
Along the way, they'll develop cherished friendships, learn in a structured and supportive environment, cultivate self-esteem and self-discipline, and get a taste of what makes the Army and Navy Academy one of California's best boarding schools. For two fun-packed weeks, your camper will have full access to the Academy's unique beachfront location in beautiful Carlsbad, California.
Campers will also learn life skills through planned activities and sport-specific challenges to equip them for future athletic success.
Outside of courses, campers will enjoy various activities on and off campus. Activities will vary by track but include the following: Midway Museum Tour, Overnight Leadership Course, Surfing & Bodyboarding, Movie Nights, Paintball, Talent Show
The Army's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) program has been vital to our nation's high school experience for over 106 years. For many young people, the program has been a developmental starting point that teaches professional growth and principles of citizenship, leadership, and service to the nation.
Campers will hone valuable life skills through learning, fun activities, and adventure-based training that reinforces virtues, responsibility, and teamwork. Campers completing two subsequent summers of JROTC Leadership camp at the Army and Navy Academy will receive academic credit for a year of JROTC education.
Aviation Discovery introduces campers to aeronautics through flight simulators, drone piloting, project-based learning, and engaging in-class discussions. The Academy's beachfront location provides a beautiful setting for your camper to take videos and pictures with professional-grade drones.
MARINE DRONE & AQUACULTURE
The Academy's Marine Drone and Aquaculture Training Program will introduce your camper to the future of marine drone piloting. With teamwork and hands-on training at our local lagoon and campus pool, this pioneering program takes campers on an exciting journey through the worlds of marine biology and oceanography with state-of-the-art underwater drones.
Campers will hop into the driver's seat of drones and learn about aquaculture technology and techniques at the Carlsbad Aquafarm.
COMPUTER SCIENCE EXPLORE
Computer Science Explore is an innovative video game design course that challenges campers to use the computer as a powerful tool to turn their vision into reality.
Campers will be introduced to video game design concepts and personal cyber hygiene. Building on the essential concepts of data responsibility, the Linux operating system, open-source software, and file systems, campers will quickly move into programming with Python, visual asset creation, and 3D modeling with Blender. Together, campers will design and program a video game of their original design using the skills they have learned during the course!
Band Discovery deepens campers' love of music through participating in concert and marching band training. This engaging program allows campers to visit San Diego's historic local museums and military bases to learn about the vast opportunities in today's music industry and discover how to accelerate their growth as musicians.
Campers will thrive with the benefit of hands-on experience in our rehearsal space. They will learn the basics of modern musical technology used for recording, DJing, and broadcasting and come together to support camp graduation with a performance of all they have learned at camp.
The Warrior Performance course addresses the total skill development of the student-athlete through training in such areas as strength and conditioning, speed and agility, and overall development. Campers will build confidence, leadership, and an understanding of nutrition to accelerate them toward their goals as scholar-athletes. For two high-octane weeks of rigorous physical training, campers will be put through various challenges to help improve their personal performance, mental confidence, and understanding of what makes a top athlete.
