Gorham, New-Hampshire
We offer exciting, rewarding outdoor adventure education in the White Mountains region of northern New Hampshire, the Lakes Region of central New Hampshire, the Maine Highlands of western Maine, and even in Acadia National Park in eastern Maine, for youth ages 12 to 18. Trips range in length from 5 to 28 days, and many of them combine different outdoor elements such as backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, and rock climbing. Group size on our programs ranges from 6 to 12 participants and all trips have at least 2 instructors at all times—leading to one of the best instructor-to-student ratios in the field.
Our new programs in Maine give you the chance to explore a place boasting the most wilderness on the eastern seaboard—the Maine Highlands. These new adventures take place partly on new property owned by the AMC. You can also join our 8-Day Acadia Adventure program or sign up for our 16-Day Explore Maine program, a longer adventure for younger teens.
We are also excited to offer expanded programs for older teens, such as our revised 25-Day Leadership Training Program, our expanded 28-Day Ultimate Expedition, and our new 20-Day Adventure Expedition.
Teen Wilderness Adventures participants learn valuable wilderness skills and develop essential life skills at the same time. This unique combination fosters an appreciation for the environment, develops self-esteem, instills a spirit of adventure, and promotes teamwork, friendship, and a sense of community through memorable wilderness experiences. Since the journey toward self-discovery best begins alone, we strongly encourage you to enroll without your friends. It will be easier to make new friends and face challenges together as a team.
Teen Wilderness Staff
The AMC's professional instructors are dedicated, energetic, and talented leaders experienced in working with youth. All our instructors are trained and certified in wilderness medicine and water safety, and have strong backcountry skills. They come from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences and are committed to providing youth with a fun and educational excursion in the outdoors while maximizing the safety of all participants. They are mature trip leaders who enjoy sharing the outdoor world with teenagers, and take their responsibility very seriously.

Pelham, New-Hampshire
Camp Runels is a Girl Scout Resident Camp, operating since 1930. The camp has 300 acres of forest and a mile of waterfront on Little Island Pond in southern New Hampshire. The camp is about an hour from Boston and two hours from the White Mountains.
Living units include platform tents or open-air cabins and everyone eats in a large dining hall, or units can plan gourmet cookouts. Campers take advantage of the sports fields, waterfront, nature program and craft house, and counselors lead their units of campers in fun and friendship.
We provide girls with a variety of programs, including kayaking and a kayak trip, whitewater rafting trips, canoeing, boating, swimming, and arts, photography, and drama programs. There are also lots of opportunities for campfires, sing-a-longs, games and teambuilding.
Girls at resident camp have an opportunity to experience independence, take care of themselves, try new activities, and make new friends in a supervised environment. Girls get to choose an area of interest, or program, to specialize in for a few hours a day. The rest of the day is planned by the campers, who choose activities, plan cookouts, and participate in scheduled camp events. At Camp Runels, girls gain confidence, build sefl-esteem, leadership skills and independence.
