Each summer Alfred University welcomes high school students to our campus to participate in exciting academic institutes in astronomy, creative writing, computers, engineering, chemistry, entrepreneurship,robotics, theater, and art portfolio preparation. We also offer equestrian and swim camps. Our beautiful, peaceful campus, located in western New York State, is the perfect place to experience learning and living in a collegiate setting. Students can explore fascinating subjects, meet others from all over the country with similar interests and levels of academic or athletic ability and have lots of fun. Classes, taught by distinguished faculty members, are kept small to allow for individualized attention and optimal use of equipment. Students also enjoy recreational activities, stay in modern residence halls and have meals in the University dining hall. Wagner College External Programs offers a variety of "Specialty" summer and year-round programs for children and teens, ages 6 to 17 on a beautiful, safe and secure college campus setting. This summer, come to the world's most exciting DNA destination - Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory - for a week of science, laboratories and fun! The lab’s Dolan DNA Learning Center (DNALC) offers hands-on programs that will propel 5th-12th grade science enthusiasts several grade levels ahead of their peers across the United States.
In week-long camps real scientists and experienced instructors guide young science enthusiasts through the maze of discoveries that are the basis of today’s “Genomic Revolution.” Participants will perform sophisticated experiments using cutting-edge laboratory and computer equipment. Through fun-filled activities they will come to understand the basics of life, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and the breakthroughs that are changing biology and medicine right now.
Led by nobel laureate Dr. Jim Watson, co-discoverer of the Double Helix and chancellor of Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, the Dolan DNA Learning Center "invented" DNA camps in 1985. Since then over 6,000 students participated. The number of different camps grew from one to seven in order to offer appropriate camps to students age 9-17. According to a recent survey of past participants, our DNA summer camps boost interest in science and technology, confidence in school science classes, and are often instrumental in determining future career goals.
