Resident Camp - Family Camp / Retreat - Coed - Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin
YMCA Family Camp Nawakwa is a 180 acre tract of unspoiled natural beauty in the Lac du Flambeau / Minocqua region of northern Wisconsin. It is situated 15 miles west of Minoqua, Wisconsin, a thriving resort community. The camp is on two lakes, Big Crooked and Little Sugarbush. It is surrounded by birch and pine forests. It offers all the beauty and peacefulness that population-centered living denies. The serenade of common loons and barred owls in the evening replaces traffic noise and sirens. The air is fresh and Big Crooked Lake is clear enough to see the bottom 15 feet down. Fishing is excellent, hiking superb, scenery rarely equaled, and the canoeing and swimming just perfect. The fall, winter, and spring seasons offer a peaceful and relaxing vacation stay.
Thirty-five pine interior cottages are situated along the lake shores. All cabins contain a gas range, refrigerator, running water, cooking utensils, dishes, and gas heat. Eighteen cabins are considered full facility cabins having a complete bathroom with hot and cold running water. Seventeen cabins have hot and cold running water and are situated near central bathroom facilities. A limited number of cribs and rollaways are available upon request.
The YMCA believes the family is the most important foundation upon which we build our lives, and therefore is committed to offering opportunities that foster family growth and strength. Our camping program has the following objectives:
- To strengthen family relationships.
- To encourage Christian values within the family in an outdoor setting.
- To strengthen awareness of the environment and build an appreciation of wilderness.
- To provide an atmosphere of fun and relaxation.
The YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago improves the quality of life for youth and families through programs that provide support and enrich, teach life skills and promote wellness of Spirit, Mind, and Body.
It is the goal of the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago to provide services to people regardless of their ability to pay.
